Original story (published on August 24, 2020) follows:

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 and the Redmi Note 8T are in line to receive the MIUI 12 update. Both devices released with Android Pie out-of-the-box along with MIUI 11 and MIUI 10 respectively. And neither of the two devices has received the Android 10 or MIUI 12 update. However, the Redmi Note 8T picked up the MIUI 11 towards the end of 2019.

Therefore, both these smartphones are currently running on Android Pie alongside Xiaomi’s MIUI 11 skin. Earlier, we had reported that the stable MIUI 12 update based on Android 10 may release in July. As it turns out, that did not happen.

The company has already released the MIUI 12 skin and the Android 10 update for many eligible phones. But like the Note 8 and Note 8T, there are a few other devices such as the Redmi Note 9 Pro and the Redmi Note 9S that are yet to receive the stable MIUI 12 update.

However, those two devices come with Android 10 pre-installed. Thus, many Redmi Note 8 and Note 8T users are curious to know when Xiaomi will release the Android 10 or MIUI 12 update for their device.

Technically, the MIUI 12 update for the the Redmi Note 8 has been released. However, it is available as a beta and for Redmi Note 8 users in China only. So the stable update is not yet available in any region.

More recently, we reported that Xiaomi may release the MIUI 12 stable update for the Redmi Note 8 and the Note 8T this month i.e., August. But as the month is about to come to an end, there are still no signs of the Android 10 or MIUI 12 update.

Further, a Device Team member on the Mi Community stated that it will be released once the developers have finished working on it. Therefore, users who are looking out for an ETA will be disappointed. Here’s the entire comment:

No ETA for software updates for the most of the time. It will release once it is ready by devs.

Even Xiaomi’s official MIUI 12 Global ROM tracker fails to mention any details regarding the update for the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8T.

As you can see, the information section for all variants on the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8T are blank here. Moreover, there’s little to no information regarding the Android 10 update for either of the two devices. Although, MIUI updates are often more exciting than Android updates on Xiaomi phones.

It’s highly likely that Xiaomi will bundle the two updates as one. Further, the company just released the stable MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 7/7S. So Note 8 and Note 8T users may not have to wait too long. But with little to no information, our guess is just as good as yours on when the update will roll out.

As usual, we will continue tracking the situation and will post an update once new details are available. Meanwhile, keep an eye out on our MIUI 12 update tracker and the Android 10 update tracker for Xiaomi phones.
