Xiaomi released the MIUI 12 update based on Android 10 for the Redmi Note 8 in China towards the tail end of September.

However, the update has remained elusive for Redmi Note 8 variants sold in other regions. This is often the case with software updates from Xiaomi.

The company tends to release updates for Chinese variants of its devices first before seeding the update in other regions.

Back in September, Xiaomi’s General Manager for Indonesia, Alvin Tse, claimed the MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 8 is still in testing.

Later, we reported that Xiaomi may release MIUI 12 for the phone on October 10 based on an unofficial timeline.

But that clearly did not happen. And soon after, new details emerged suggesting that the device will get the update globally by mid-October.

Well, we’re way past mid-October and Xiaomi has not yet released MIUI 12 for the Redmi Note 8.

Not all hope is lost, though, since it can be speculated that the development process is in its final stages given the fact that the testing has been going on for a while now.

Matter of fact, the global variant of the Redmi Note 8T recently bagged the company’s new skin alongside Android 10.

Therefore, it’s highly likely that the update may arrive on the Redmi Note 8 sooner rather than later since the Redmi Note 8T and Note 8 are practically the same devices.

This is because both phones share the exact same specifications except for the fact that the Note 8T comes with NFC support while the Note 8 does not.

Now, the same Xiaomi GM, Alvin Tse, has once again shed some more light on the availability of the stable MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 8 via a tweet.

Responding to a user’s query regarding the pending update for the Redmi Note 8, Alvin stated that it can be expected in November since the developers have to add some optimizations before releasing the update.

We’ve added the complete comment below:

Looking at November now as devs need to merge some optimizations into the build before releasing for Redmi Note 8

Given that this statement is made by a Xiaomi executive and not a moderator, it does carry a lot of weight. So you can indeed expect the update to arrive next month.

Unfortunately, Alvin did not provide a specific date for its release. Thus, based on this statement, the update could be released at the start of the month or towards the end of it.

Like we mentioned earlier, the global Redmi Note 8T has already received the update. Therefore, Xiaomi may begin seeding MIUI 12 for the Redmi Note 8 early next month.

Of course, this will only happen if the development team does not hit a snag. If a major bug is unearthed, it’s likely that the update may be delayed further.

We will continue to track all developments regarding the release of MIUI 12 for the Redmi Note 8 and will post an update once new details emerge.
