[Updated] Xiaomi Mi A3 Android 10 update re-released along with March security patch

Following months of waiting, the stable Mi A3 Android 10 update was finally released late last month. This came after Xiaomi had already pushed the OS to the older Mi A2, much to the dismay of many Mi A3 owners.

Naturally, being the newer device, the Mi A3 was expected to receive Android 10 ahead of the Mi A2, but hey, we don’t make the rules. Soon after the OS went live, numerous complaints about a botched fingerprint scanner started showing up in various forums.

With reports of the fingerprint issues and many others rising, Xiaomi had no option but to quickly halt the rollout before it reached a bigger number of Mi A3 units. The company then promised to re-release the Mi A3 Android 10 update after addressing the fingerprint issue, but gave no specific date.

When pressed for a date, it was confirmed that a patched-up version will be pushed to the device by the end of March. This revelation came after Xiaomi pushed a minor beta update to the device to address some of the bugs in the initial Android 10 firmware.

With the issues seemingly addressed, Xiaomi has now resumed rolling out Android 10 to the Mi A3 as version 11.0.8.0.QFQMIXM. The update is available to those who had already received the initial Android 10 as a small OTA weighing in at 32MB.

As well as for those who were still on Pie, where the OTA size is 1.3GB or 1.37GB in some cases. In either case, you also get the latest March 2020 security patch installed, but some users say there is still no added support for VoWiFi calling on Airtel and Reliance Jio in India.

Matter of fact, none of Xiaomi’s Android One devices support VoWiFi calling, including the Mi A1, Mi A2, and Mi A2 Lite. But we expect that at some point the feature will be made available via a software update.

This is an airborne update, meaning some users will get it ahead of others. Also, since its the Beta Stable version, it may be discontinued anytime in case of bugs, so better stick around until the stable version arrives. See the announcement post here.

For those getting the March patch, the changes include correction of the error when starting the Pro Mode in Spanish on the camera and fixed bug where the fingerprint sensor was not showing on the lock screen.
