New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on March 19, 2020) follows:

It has become customary for the Android fraternity to be treated to a new Android version every year and 2020 is no different. Sure, Android 10 is not even running on 10% of all Android devices, but Google is already working on the next iteration of the OS.

Dubbed Android 11 or Android R, the new OS came to life a few weeks ago when Google launched the first developer preview version. As the name suggests, this is meant for app developers who want to get their apps ready to work on devices running the new OS.

Android 11 developer preview 2 is already out and even though the Google I/O 2020 is no more, we still expect the first public beta to be available at around the same time that the event was to be held – May 2020.

But what about those who want the stable Android 11 update? When will it be released? Will your device receive the update once available? In this article, these are some of the questions we answer to the best of our knowledge, but with respect to OnePlus devices. Xiaomi user? Check here.

It’s worth noting that this info isn’t coming from OnePlus, rather, it is based on our team’s experience covering software updates for various devices, meaning changes may pop in at some point once the official details are out.

OnePlus devices eligible for Android 11/OxygenOS 11 update

Following is the list of devices that are officially confirmed to get Android 11 (OxygenOS 11) update:

  • OnePlus 8
  • OnePlus 8 Pro
  • OnePlus 7
  • OnePlus 7 Pro
  • OnePlus 7T
  • OnePlus 7T Pro
  • OnePlus 6
  • OnePlus 6T
  • OnePlus Nord
  • OnePlus Nord N10 5G – NEW
  • OnePlus Nord N100 – NEW
  • The update, however, is also likely to hit the following devices:

  • OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition
  • OnePlus 7 Pro 5G
  • OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition
    • NOTE: The list above has been updated with new OnePlus devices released as of November 07.

Last year, OnePlus 6/6T and OnePlus 7 series were included in the original Android Q public beta testing program, so we expect at least the same number of devices in this year’s Android 11 public beta program – if not more.

Given that the then-new OnePlus 6/6T got the nod in the program, we can also assume that the current flagships from the company, OnePlus 7/7T and probably their Pro variants will also get into the upcoming Android 11 beta program.

On the basis of the OnePlus 7 getting into the Q beta program right after launch, we also expect the OnePlus 8 and probably its Pro variant to link up with the OnePlus 7/7T in the R beta testing program once the phones are released.

Sure, the OnePlus 6/6T should also get updated to Android 11, at least if OnePlus continues with its impressive streak of rolling out three OS upgrades. The duo already received the second OS in Android 10, but no, don’t expect Android R public beta testing, just like the current OnePlus 5/5T.

Android 11/OxygenOS 11 update stable release

Android Oreo and Pie stable versions arrived in August while Android 10 dropped in September. Granted, the stable Android 11 update should start hitting the Google Pixel 4 and co. at around the same time.

It took OnePlus about three weeks to push the stable OxygenOS 10 based on Android 10 to the OnePlus 7/Pro after Google released it. If anything, we expect this same timeline with respect to OxygenOS 11 update based on Android 11, but there can never be guarantees with software update timelines.

So, when exactly could this be? Well, your safest bet is somewhere in Q3 2020, at least for OnePlus 8 and perhaps the 7/7T devices. But first, let’s get past the coronavirus scare and when the time comes, we will let you know about the availability of the OxygenOS 11 update for your device.
