OnePlus 8 & 8 Pro OxygenOS 11 stable update almost here; Nord Android 11 beta may also arrive soon
Google unveiled the official build of Android 11 on September 9 and with that, it was off to the races for other Android OEMs as they now strive to push out their skinned versions of Android 11 for their eligible devices.
OnePlus has always been regarded as an enthusiast brand and as such, has tried to be on top of its game when it comes to matters updates. At the time of writing, OnePlus already has a Public Beta program for OnePlus 8 users.
We also have a tracker dedicated to keeping tabs on the rollout of OxygenOS 11 so you can check it out for more info on devices that have received Beta or Stable builds of the same.
Now to our OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro. We saw OnePlus jump the gun and begin development of this skin well before Android 11 was officially unveiled and with that, we can only assume that the company has made impressive headway at this point.
How far? Well, new info suggest that the stable Android 11 update for OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro is right around the corner.
See, recently, OnePlus created a new branch, SM8250_R_11.0, titled “Synchronize codes for OnePlus 8 Oxygen OS 11.IN21DA and OnePlus 8 Pro Oxygen OS 11.IN11DA” on its GitHub page.
Looking back, the OnePlus 7 series of devices received Android 10 within 20 days of the official release. Could OnePlus be planning to do it again with the current OnePlus 8 devices? XDA Developer’s Editor-in-Chief certainly thinks so.
In a Tweet responding to the news of OnePlus creating the GitHub branch, he says:
Looks like the stable release of OxygenOS 11 based on Android 11 is nearly here for the OnePlus 8 series.
While we haven’t received any official communication from OnePlus on the same, it is certainly implied and users of the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro should be on the lookout for this looming update.
In other OnePlus news, the company is calling upon users of the OnePlus Nord who want to participate in the Closed Beta Program for upcoming software builds.
OnePlus Nord has not been without issues (1, 2) in its first few months of being available in the market. These issues need to be addressed ASAP and hence the need for the Closed Beta program.
Also, with the above-mentioned call for Closed Beta participants, OnePlus could as well be planning to start testing Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 for OnePlus Nord.
This would also make sense seeing as the Nord is the newest OnePlus device and as such, should be first in line for an update to OxygenOS 11, beating older flagships to this.
This time around, OnePlus will be accepting 200 people into this Closed Beta Program, the highest number ever. This should then be followed by an Open Beta program, then the official release.

We have a dedicated OxygenOS 11 tracker so you might want to keep an eye on that for more on what OnePlus is doing in line with its upcoming Android 11 update.
