New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Asus ZenFone 5Z picked up the first Android Q beta build in August. This, as expected, was a limited edition update that hardly made headlines across the 5Z family.

In early September, this limited edition update received a new version that Asus called Android Q Beta 6 thanks to the fact that it was based off the latest Android Q beta update at the time.

Given that this beta was based on the final version of Android Q beta 6, hopes were high that the ZenFone 5Z Android 10 update would hit the stable channel sooner than later. But towards the end of September, Asus revealed that the public beta testing will begin in mid-October.

True to its word, the Taiwanese company is now rolling out the promised ZenFone 5Z Android 10 update in all of its open beta glory as I pen this. The update is arriving with the new ZenUI 6 skin on top of stock Android.

We are going to release the first FOTA for ZenFone 5Z open beta users today. This FOTA will not wipe your data, but we strongly suggest you to back-up your data anyway.

Asus has provided the release notes and changelog of the new ZenFone 5Z Android 10 update on this link, but you’ll need to be a beta tester in order to access the link and its contents.

Asus is rolling out the update to the WW SKU as software version 100.04.44.67 and even though the update is airborne, we do have our hands on the link you need to download the ROM for manual installation.

  • Device: Asus ZenFone 5Z
  • Codename: z01r
  • Channel: Global (WW) Beta
  • Version: 100.04.44.67
  • Android: 10

Wondering how to proceed now that you have the download link above? Well, simply download the ROM and rename the zip file to UL-Z01R-WW-100.04.44.67-user.zip, copy the renamed zip file into the root of the internal memory (assuming you downloaded it via a PC) and initiate system update. That’s it!

It’s worth noting that regardless of the stage, this is still beta software and hence you are likely yo come across bugs here and there. Unless you are ready to deal with such a user experience, better skip this one and wait for the stable rollout to begin, possibly in the next few weeks.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
