New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 14, 2020) follows:

Android One devices are not expected to be as prolific as Google Pixels when it comes to timely software updates. But one would expect respective vendors to be on Google’s heels with software update rollouts.

Sadly, this hasn’t been the case since the program picked up momentum a couple of years ago. The company that sparked the new wave of Android One devices, Xiaomi, isn’t even among the best when it comes to timely updates.

To date, for instance, only the Mi A2 has received the stable update to Android 10. Sure, the Mi A1 isn’t on the roster having picked up two OS upgrades in Oreo and Pie, but the Mi A3 ought to have received the 10 update ahead of the A2.

Mi A2 has picked up Android 10 stable update

In mid-December, reports emerged suggesting that the Mi A2 and Mi A3 would both be upgraded to Android 10 in January 2020. However, only the former has received the new OS as of this writing.

Naturally, Mi A3 owners are up in arms demanding answers as to why their newer and more powerful device hasn’t received Android 10 yet its older sibling has. This is what you would expect, not just for Xiaomi devices.

In response, Xiaomi India has revealed that the Mi A3 Android 10 update will be released in mid-February 2020. There is no way to guarantee this will actualize, so the best way is to sit back and wait.

This, unfortunately, means another long wait, something buyers of the Mi A3 were always trying to avoid thanks to the Android One branding. But then again, support guys can never be trusted with such info, so this should give you a reason to take this with a grain of salt.

Update 1 (January 17, 2020)

Apparently, Xiaomi has rolled out the Mi A3 Android 10 update to 10,000 units in India. More details here.

Update 2 (January 28, 2020)

Apparently, despite no single report from a Mi A3 owner confirming to have received Android 10, Xiaomi insists that some units have already received the update. More details here.

Update 3 (February 03, 2020)

According to a conversation between a user and Xiaomi’s online support, Android 10 for the Mi A3 is still in testing and we might not see a stable build until sometime in March. Details here.

Update 4 (February 17, 2020)

There is even more confusion surrounding the rollout of Mi A3 Android 10 update and Xiaomi isn’t doing much to help. More details here.

Update 5 (March 01, 2020)

The update is finally live now. Complete coverage here.

Update 5 (March 18, 2020)

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
