[Re-released with March patch] Xiaomi Mi A3 Android 10 update allegedly available to a selected number of people in India

[Re-released with March patch] Xiaomi Mi A3 Android 10 update allegedly available to a selected number of people in India

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 17, 2020) follows:

Xiaomi Mi A3, being the newest, was expected to receive Android 10 ahead of the Mi A2. But we all know what happened, where the latter scooped the OS just last week.

The rollout has reportedly been halted, though, meaning most Mi A2 owners are still on Pie, just like their Mi A3 counterparts. Even so, it’s likely those who had received the Mi A2 Android 10 update could be in the thousands.

Going by the latest developments regarding the Mi A3 Android 10 update, though, it’s likely the two devices could level up pretty much soon. Matter of fact, it is alleged that Xiaomi has released Android 10 to 10,000 Mi A3 units across India.

The screengrab above is an alleged conversation between a Xiaomi customer support and a Mi A3 user inquiring about Android 10 availability. Apparently, the OS is available to a select number of Indians.

This is usually the process of rolling out OTA updates, where the OS is released in batches in order to monitor the performance. If any major bugs are discovered, the rollout is halted. This is likely to be the current situation with the Mi A2 Android 10 rollout.

No one knows the criteria Xiaomi used to pick the said 10,000 Mi A3 owners in the country. Matter of fact, there doesn’t seem to be any single person who has received the Mi A3 Android 10 update in the Mi forums, so it’s hard to get any truth out of this.

This is especially since Xiaomi India recently revealed that the Mi A3 will receive Android 10 in February. Still, we will keep an eye on the story and let you know how this develops.

Thanks for the tip, Lalit Mohan Sahoo!

      Update 1

A reader of us has contacted Xiaomi support and confirmed that the rollout is a part of a closed beta test.

      Update 2 (January 28, 2020)

Apparently, despite no single report from a Mi A3 owner confirming to have received Android 10, Xiaomi insists that some units have already received the update. More details here.

Thanks for the tip, Aman Shahin!

      Update 3 (February 17, 2020)

Xiaomi isn’t coming clear about the Mi A3 Android 10 update and this is leaving device owners even more confused. Details here.

      Update 4 (March 18, 2020)

Xiaomi has re-released the patched-up Mi A3 Android 10 firmware that also bundles the latest March 2020 security patch. See the full story here.
