Original story (from December 05, 2019) follows:

When we talk about EMUI 10, our readers can understand that the underlying layer is based on Android 10. OPPO and Realme are also maintaining a straightforward versioning scheme, as the newly released released ColorOS 7 (still in beta form) is an upgrade over Pie based ColorOS 6.

Xiaomi, on the other hand, is not very fond of that idea. Some of their phones do run the latest iteration of their in-house skin, MIUI 11, on top of Android 10, but there are plenty of contrasting examples. Legacy devices like Redmi Note 4 are still stuck with Nougat albeit receiving stable MIUI 11 update.

Talking about the Max lineup, the phablet series might not get the fourth member anytime soon. The latest candidate, i.e. Mi Max 3 recently picked up MIUI 11 OTA after the initial build was pulled back. Although they are based on Pie, the situation will change soon. Yes, the phone is getting Android 10!

We first suspected the development when xiaomi.eu dropped the phone alongside some others from their last weekly update roster (9.11.28). Some members of the community hinted that both Mi Max 3 and Mi 8 Lite are going to receive Android 10 in their upcoming MIUI beta release.

Guess what? The Snapdragon 660 laden Mi 8 Lite is also eligible for the Android 10. Interestingly, both of them were originally launched with Oreo, so this makes two major updates for them. Mi Max 2 never grabbed a single Android version update in comparison.

As you can see, the Android 10 build is based on MIUI closed beta branch (9.12.4) and bundles November security patches. The stable channel MIUI 11 for Mi 8 Lite is still based on September patch.

Back in November, the Chinese OEM also rolled out Android 10 for Mi 9 Lite/Mi CC9 via beta channel. Judging from the pattern, stable Android 10 might land on Mi Max 3 as well as Mi 8 Lite sometimes in 2020.

As usual, you can download the full update package from the following section. As they are closed beta builds, flashing from the built-in System Updater will require verified account. However, the restriction can be bypassed by flashing through TWRP.
