Xiaomi fans are probably more excited about the arrival of MIUI 11 than Android 10. The Chinese company has one of the most customized Android skins, but it is loved by a good number of people who use the Mi and Redmi phones across the globe.

The company started rolling out the stable version of the MIUI 11 update in China not long ago and it has gradually been spreading this love to more devices across the globe.

While the global MIUI 11 update is still not as widespread, more devices keep joining the fray, the latest ones the Xiaomi Mi 9 and Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. These two, as you may have guessed, already got their stable MIUI 11 updates in China.

Xiaomi Mi 9

The Mi 9 MIUI 11 update in China had more on board, tagging along the latest and greatest from Google, Android 10 OS. This is also true for the global MIUI 11 update that is arriving on the Mi 9 as I write this as version 11.0.1.0.QFAMIXM.

The OTA update weighs in at 2.3GB, which is understandable for a file that carries a myriad of changes and new features from both Xiaomi and Google. Also, you do get an updated October security patch as part of the incoming software.

It’s worth noting that the incoming Mi 9 MIUI 11 update is available on a limited basis as the company monitors the performance of the software for early adopters. If things go well, the wider rollout should begin later this week.

For those on the older Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, the global MIUI 11 update is arriving as version 11.0.5.0.PDTMIXM and weighs in at 636MB. Unlike the Mi 9, though, the base OS is still Android Pie and the security patch level is September 2019.

The Mi 8 MIUI 11 update is also rolling out in Russia as version 11.0.5.0.PDTRUXM and yeah, it is still based on Pie. Below is a summary of the changelog as provided by Xiaomi.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
