New updates are being added at the bottom of the story…

Original story (from June 12, 2019) follows:

Huawei Y9 (2019) (aka Huawei Enjoy 9 Plus in China) is the Chinese OEMs last year’s mid-ranger phone that is fueled with Hisilicon Kirin 710. The device originally shipped with Android Oreo 8.1 layered with the company’s customized skin EMUI 8.2.

Like many other Huawei/Honor phones, even Y9 (2019) users have been gawking EMUI 9/Pie’s arrival on their units. Just to refresh, Huawei’s ban in the US left their customers questioning whether the company will be pushing firmware updates, as initially Google also refrained from working with them.

However, the company managed to grab an extension for about three months and aims to push Android Pie-based EMUI 9 to as many phones as possible during this grace period. Recently, they shared their plan in the form of a tweet.

And the company is working aggressively to accomplish their targets. During past few days itself, Huawei has already pushed EMUI 9 to their last year’s Huawei P20 Lite, followed by 2017’s Honor 9 Lite as well as Huawei P Smart phones.

Coming to Huawei Y9 (2019), back in March, the company began the EMUI 9.0 beta program for the device. Then in April, they shared the final stable build of EMUI 9 is likely to be pushed on Y9 (2019) by May-end. Though, the update didn’t land on the units until now.

But things are changing now, and the wait for Huawei Y9 (2019) users is finally over. The company has begun pushing EMUI 9 to the units. A couple of users across Twitter have confirmed that Y9 (2019) model JKM-LX1 is now receiving EMUI 9 patch bearing build number 9.0.1.162.

Here’s a user shared image of the changelog:

As can be seen in the changelog, the update includes 2 patches and has bumped the version from 8.2.0.156 to 9.0.1.162. While Huawei Y9 (2019) model JKM-LX1 users are receiving the current update, a user with model JKM-LX2 has confirmed they received the same update a few days ago.

It could be possible that Huawei is pushing EMUI 9 update to Y9 (2019) devices either model-wise or region-wise. That’s why users are receiving the same patch in phases. Anyway, what’s good is the company has rolled out EMUI 9 to Y9 (2019) devices as well.

Here’s hoping they deliver the same to other Huawei/Honor phones as well some time soon. Rest assured we are keeping a tab on all related developments and will let you know as and when other Huawei phones get to taste Pie-based EMUI 9.

In the meantime, if you have received EMUI 9 on your Y9 (2019) unit, feel free to share with us how it is acting on your device.
