MIUI 12 remains the center of attention in the Xiaomi community, several months since its official unveiling. Already, a number of Xiaomi and Redmi devices have been updated to this new skin on top of Android that promises tons of features and a redesigned user interface.

We have a well-maintained dedicated tracker to keep tabs on the rollout of MIUI 12 to eligible devices and you can check it out for more detailed coverage on the state of MIUI 12 in various regions.

The Redmi 9 was first unveiled back in June 2020 with Android 10-based MIUI 11 out of the box. The device is eligible for an update to MIUI 12 and back in July, we saw the device bag a stable build of the company’s new skin.

That was, however, short-lived as the device picked up a new MIUI 11 update several weeks later. This implied that the earlier-released MIUI 12 build had been rescinded. It remains unclear what caused this rollback but since it was an initial build of MIUI 12, this was probably due to bugs.

A few weeks later, we saw a similar MIUI 11 update going out to the non-Chinese variants of the Redmi 9 to the further dismay of users who were growing increasingly restless over the state of MIUI 12 for their Redmi 9 devices.

Well, cut to the present day and users of the Chinese variant of Redmi 9 have something to ogle over as Xiaomi is once again rolling out MIUI 12 for their devices. This stable beta update bears the exact same software version number as the previous MIUI 12 release, V12.0.1.0.QJCCNXM.

It is, therefore, safe to assume that the changelogs for both builds are identical as well, meaning that this update brings to the Redmi 9 all the MIUI 12 goodness we have seen with other devices.

Being a stable beta build, this update will be going out to a limited number of users so it will be a while before it hits all Redmi 9 units. Should you want to manually install this MIUI 12 build on your Chinese variant of the Redmi 9, below is the download link.

  • Device: Redmi 9
  • Codename: lancelot
  • Channel: China Stable
  • Version: V12.0.1.0.QJCCNXM
  • Android: 10
    • Type: Recovery

Should you run into an error while manually upgrading your Redmi 9, we have compiled a list of frequent errors when upgrading Xiaomi devices and how to fix them.

We shall continue to keep an eye on MIUI 12 rollout and Xiaomi so you might want to check out our dedicated sections for that and more.
