New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on February 26, 2020) follows:

The Mi A2 Lite Android 10 update was thrown into doubt when company support suggested that the device, alongside the veteran Mi A1, won’t be upgraded to the new OS.

While it was a little understandable for the Mi A1 Android 10 update to be scrapped, no amount of explanation was going to vindicate a decision to exclude the Mi A2 Lite from the company’s Android 10 plans.

This development came after the device picked up Pie-based January patches mid last month, just like any other Android One device should. Shortly after, aggravated owners of the device took to the Change.org platform to sign a petition compelling Xiaomi to upgrade the Mi A2 Lite to Android 10.

The company later came out to clear the air by confirming that the update was in the works. Not long after, the Mi A2 Lite appeared on Geekbench running the new OS, adding more weight to an earlier statement that the firmware was being worked on.

Now, in another fresh development that further cements the stories regarding the imminent availability of OS for Mi A2 Lite units, the company has just published kernel sources on Github.

With this commit, it means the new OS is coming soon to the Mi A2 Lite, but we can’t give you any specific date. For some perspective, though, the Mi A2 Android 10 update started rolling out only a couple of days after Xiaomi published the kernel source code.

If there is any slight chance for a repeat of this, we could see the Mi A2 Lite pick up the new OS before the end of this week, but of course, this is just some speculation from my end. Either way, you can rest assured that Android 10 is coming your way soon.

Update 1 (March 09, 2020)

Xiaomi is finally rolling out the stable Mi A2 Lite Android 10 update in batches. See the full story here.

Update 2 (March 10, 2020)

Many owners of the Mi A2 Lite are now reporting that the update to Android 10 is bricking their devices, leaving them in bootloop and totally unusable. See the full story here.

Update 3 (March 11, 2020)

The update to Android 10 for Mi A2 Lite owners is no longer available. Xiaomi has reportedly pulled the OTA rollout, probably due to the many reports of bricking devices. See the full story, including an official workaround for bricked units, here.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
