New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 29, 2020) follows:

Xiaomi is known to support devices as old as 4 years with MIUI software updates (remember the Mi 4 got MIUI 10?). This has earned it praise among fans of the skin, but the company seems to be struggling at the one job every Android One owner expects them to excel.

In addition to monthly security updates for a period of at least two years, every Android One phone is entitled to at least two major OS upgrades during its time in everyone’s hands.

But Xiaomi seems to be playing some kinda game with owners of the Mi A2 Lite. The Mi A2 got its Android 10 update a while back and even though Mi A3 owners have their own issues to deal with, Mi A2 Lite owners have their own story to tell too.

Sure, Xiaomi is keeping its promise as far as security updates are concerned. The Mi A2 Lite recently got its January 2020 patch, an update that many hoped would bring Android 10. We even thought it’s just a delay, but then the drama began.

For the uninitiated, currently, there are uncertainties over the Mi A2 Lite Android 10 update – uncertainties that shouldn’t be there at all for any Android One device that came with Android Oreo pre-installed. Statements from various Xiaomi support have contradicted each other.

At one point one of them said the update had been scrapped and later, after an uproar that led to a Change.org petition, others claimed the update was in the works. With the reputation customer support has built over time, one would expect a few confusions, but not to this magnitude.

Now, in another more recent development, another Xiaomi support has come out to seemingly assure Mi A2 Lite owners that Android 10 is in the works. Apparently, the update is under development, which sounds promising.

But then again, these are the same guys that claimed the update had been scrapped, so you better take this with a grain of salt, no matter how you want to believe it.

As you can see from the screengrab above, the support guys did admit that they don’t work closely with the software developers team, so they wouldn’t know when the update will be released.

We will keep an eye on more developments and bring you updates as and when we get them.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
