Android is a vast ecosystem. It supports device makers from across the globe. To differentiate themselves, phone makers often customize their version of Android differently. While this diversity is Android’s greatest strength, it is also its weakness.

The practice makes the whole ecosystem incredibly fragmented. Luckily, monthly security updates are an important tool to keep Android users safe and protect their devices. These patches provide fixes for possible issues affecting devices running Android.

Android device and chipset manufacturers may also publish security vulnerability details specific to their products. Samsung is one Android phone maker that has really stepped up in terms of updates. More and more Samsung devices are getting updated to the latest monthly patch in a timely fashion.

FYI, the November 2019 security patch fixes quite a few vulnerabilities for Android devices which you can check the Android Security Bulletin website. In fact, Samsung is rolling out a new November build to the Galaxy S9.

The global Exynos variant of the Galaxy S9 got the monthly security update a few days ago. The version number of the previous build was CSJ3, while new one is CSK1. The region specific update apparently contains some camera related improvement.

Galaxy Note 9

The US carrier unlocked variant of Galaxy Note 9 is also getting the November patch. The update carries build number N960U1UES3CSJ1 and is based on Android 9 Pie.

From the changelog, this is simply another security patch. The update is purely incremental in nature and does not add anything new to the device. Though it does not tag along with any new features, the device stability and performance improvements cannot be ignored.

Galaxy Note 9 was launched in 2018 and is still considered as one of the best devices to go for as it is available for huge discounts across various stores and is eligible to receive Android 10 update.

The Galaxy S9 is also a solid device even in 2019. It has been overshadowed by the fancier and flashier S10 family but it is also in line for the OneUI 2.0 update.

Previously, the September update for the Galaxy S9 packed in some improvements for the camera along with security patch. Hope these two also bundle similar fixes. Keep in mind that the update for Galaxy Note 9 is not applicable for carrier variants.

Moreover, the updates are being pushed via OTA in batches and will take some time in hitting all the devices. But, you can check for the updates manually by heading to System>>Software Updates>>Download updates manually.
