If you open TikTok right now and type just the letters “is” into the search bar, you might expect to see “is it cake” or “island vacations.” Instead, a growing number of users are staring at the word “Israel” popping up instantly. It is happening even when they only type two letters, and frankly, it is freaking people out.

A popular thread on r/Hasan_Piker showcased multiple screenshots of this TikTok search issue. Users shared examples where typing almost anything would trigger Israel-related suggestions. The post quickly gained traction, with over 200 upvotes and dozens of comments from confused and frustrated users trying to figure out what’s happening.

Israel will frequently pop up as an autopopulate on New TikTok even if you only type two letters

Similar reports popped up on r/TikTok. One user posted a screenshot showing “Israel” appearing in a list of otherwise unrelated suggested searches. Another thread titled “Does anyone else have this? This is actually scary” raised the same concerns.

On X, user @xoanaxx shared screenshots asking why Israel keeps appearing in TikTok suggested searches. The same user also pointed out other bizarre search behavior, including what they labeled “super inappropriate” recommendations appearing out of nowhere.

This comes shortly after TikTok US transitioned to new ownership involving Oracle. Users have been uneasy ever since pop-ups started asking them to accept new terms last week. The updated privacy policy also sparked concerns, though some of the controversial data collection clauses were actually added back in 2024.

This week has been rough for the platform overall. Many users reported broken FYP algorithms showing irrelevant content, while others saw their view counters stuck at zero or videos stuck in review. TikTok US eventually issued a statement blaming the problems on a power outage. A separate rumor about the word Epstein being censored in DMs was also debunked.

On top of all that, multiple users have recently been hit with sudden bans citing “off-platform misconduct.”

As for the Israel search glitch, one commenter on r/TikTok offered a simpler explanation: bots might be spamming certain searches, causing them to show up in autocomplete for everyone. Another suggested it could just be tied to individual search history.

My take? It’s most likely just a bug or backend glitch. But the @israel account randomly appearing is definitely not a great look, especially after everything that’s happened. Given that TikTok’s new CEO, Adam Presser, told the World Jewish Congress last year that the platform bans criticism of Zionists, you can see why some users are raising eyebrows.

TikTok hasn’t addressed this specific issue yet.
