TikTok users in the US are dealing with a broken For You Page that keeps serving up the same videos on repeat, AI-generated content they never asked for, and clips from months ago that have nothing to do with their interests.
The problems started showing up after a major outage hit the platform several hours ago. Videos failed to post, some showed zero views, and people couldn’t log back in after signing out. But even as those core technical problems got resolved, the FYP has remained a mess for many.
One frustrated user on Reddit described their feed as completely reset, filled with AI-generated videos and random YouTube shorts-style content instead of their usual personalized recommendations. Others are seeing the same 10 videos cycling endlessly, even after hitting “not interested”.
Users report getting foreign language videos they’ve never engaged with before, grainy clips of random influencers, and content with millions of likes that has zero connection to what they normally watch. Some are even seeing videos they already liked weeks or months ago reappearing with their old interactions still visible.
That said, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this in recent months. Back in December, users reported a similar bug where the FYP kept showing old videos instead of fresh content. That earlier incident also left people wondering if their carefully curated feeds had been wiped clean.
Furthermore, TikTok just finalized a deal with Oracle to form a new US entity, and part of that arrangement involves retraining the recommendation algorithm on American user data. The algorithm will be licensed from ByteDance but secured within Oracle’s cloud infrastructure and updated specifically for US users.
In line with ownership transfer, TikTok pushed out an updated privacy policy that sent users into panic mode. The in-app message detailed how the platform could collect sensitive information like precise location data. However, the bigger backlash came when people started noticing text on the privacy policy that detailed how the app can collect information like immigration status and sexual orientation. That triggered everyone into rushing to uninstall the app, but what many failed to realize is that those terms were added back in 2024.
Coming back to the fresh mess, some Reddit users are connecting the dots. One commenter notes that videos are stuck in the review phase and creators are getting zero views on new uploads, suggesting server-side changes are still being worked out. Others pointed out that search results have become irrelevant, and certain topics don’t surface any recent content at all.
A few users have also noticed that content about specific news events seems harder to find or isn’t showing up in search results like it normally would. Whether that’s related to content moderation changes or just part of the broader technical issues remains unclear.
For now, many are stuck scrolling through feeds that feel generic and unfamiliar. The personalization that made TikTok addictive appears to have been scrambled, leaving users with content that looks more like a brand new account than one they’ve spent years training.
I suspect the algorithm glitch will be fixed sooner rather than later.
