Battlefield 2042, the FPS developed by Electronic Arts is a common name when it comes to issues and glitches. This is reflected in the multiple coverages it has received here (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

Now, the most recent reports are not related to any bugs, but rather to complaints about missing features that players feel are necessary for a full-feeling experience.

More specifically, many Battlefield 2042 players are clamoring for the return of the scoreboard and in-game voice chat features, which were available in previous games in the series.

The classic scoreboard is a basic element present in practically all multiplayer FPS. This allows players to check their stats and see how they compare to other players (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

The scoreboard is usually an element that players use to motivate themselves to improve. However, EA decided not to include that feature in Battlefield 2042 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12).

Where is the scoreboard? Really I’d love to see my statistics, and I’d love to see my past game statistics, to see how I improved. I also want to see all statistics, not only a random one for like 3 seconds. Really what the hell? The absence of the scoreboard weirds me out. Am I getting old? I might have an existential crisis over this.

Players also request in-game voice chat

Another feature requested by Battlefield 2042 players is an in-game voice chat system. This was also present in previous Battlefield games (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9).

Regarding squad, I think it could be improved by having a squad voice chat, so that you can actually coordinate with your mates. Additionally you can reward team cohesion, for example by giving you XPs if you are within a certain distance of your mates, or by giving you more XPs if you kill or do actions together with the squad, etc.

The lack of a voice chat system exponentially reduces the tactical possibilities in the game, by not allowing voice coordination between members of the same team (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10).

EA considers ‘Legacy’ features to the scoreboard and voice chat

Something that is bothering players a lot is that Electronic Arts considers the scoreboard and in-game voice chat to be ‘legacy’ features, as if the company wanted to permanently abandon them for future games.

It should be noted that both features were present in previous Battlefield 2042. So, many players feel that there is a downgrade in experience in the most recent version.

The alleged reason behind the lost features

According to reports, the reason behind the removal of both features is to avoid the spread of hate messages and toxicity. However, players aren’t happy about being treated like children in a ‘Mature’ game rated.

Battlefield 2042 ESRB rating is 17+ “Mature” but it feels like a kids game.

I feel like it’s not “mature” at all?

Funny voicelines, colorful environment, funny end of round quips, clean streets, no K/D ratio and no scoreboard to “prevent toxicity”…is there even blood in this game? How can it be mature?

At the moment, no official statement has emerged from EA regarding Battlefield 2042 player requests. So, it only remains to wait and see if the company plans to bring those features back.
