[Updated] Poco F1 (Pocophone F1) MIUI 12 update confirmed, ray of hope for Android 11/Android R?

This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..

Original story (published on April 22) follows:

Xiaomi’s Poco F1 or rather Pocophone F1 as the device is known outside the Indian borders is the sub-brand’s first smartphone ever. The device was well received and still remains among many people’s favorite Xiaomi smartphones.

Besides the value for money the device promised at launch, one other aspect that attracted many to the device is the promise of regular software updates and at least two major Android OS upgrades.

As of this writing, I’d be lying to say Xiaomi hasn’t lived up to its promise. But of course, being the first handset from the POCO by Xiaomi brand, it was always going to encounter a few hurdles here and there.

      Poco X2 isn’t considered the F1 successor

With the arrival of the Poco X2, things have become even bleaker for Poco F1 owners now that attention has turned to the new kid on the block. As a result, questions are flying around regarding the chances of the Poco F1 MIUI 12 update based on Android 11.

FYI, the Pocophone F1 launched with Android Oreo and is currently running Android 10 following an upgrade released earlier this year. Granted, there shouldn’t be high hopes for a third OS upgrade, at least not officially.

Traditionally, Xiaomi rolls out no more than two major OS upgrades, but according to a Mi forum moderator, the Poco F1 MIUI 12 update should tag along some features borrowed from Android 11.

POCO F1 is already almost 2 years old and it has received all of its promised updates (2 major updates and several minor ones including 2 MIUI updates). It possibly will get MIUI 12 too. So in a way, new features will come to POCO F1 too. Patience is the key.

Even though the screenshot above seems to insinuate that the Poco F1 Android 11 update dream might still be alive, there is no reason to get too excited here, especially since the OS isn’t even close to the stable version.

Still, it’s great to learn that the Pocophone F1 MIUI 12 update will likely bring a few Android 11 features. Now, only if we knew the features in question.

      Update 1 (April 30)

Xiaomi’s Mi 8 MIUI 12 has been ported to the Poco F1. Head here for more details.

      Update 2 (May 19)

The MIUI 12 update for the Poco F1 has been confirmed. Head here for more coverage.

      Update 3 (May 21)

The update to MIUI 12 for the Poco F1 is expected to arrive in July. Head here for more details.

      Update 4 (May 29)

The Pocophone F1 may or may not get an update to MIUI 13. Head here for more details.

      Update 5 (June 2)

The Pocophone F1 is expected to go into beta testing for the update to MIUI 12. Head here for more details.

      Update 6 (September 22)

IST 05:13 pm: While Xiaomi does not roll out 3 major OS updates for its devices, there are slight chances that it may also join the 3 major OS updates club by releasing Android 11 for the Poco F1/Pocophone F1. Check out all the details here.
