New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on February 12, 2020) follows:

Samsung has different Android 10 (One UI 2.0) release timelines for various markets across the globe. Some get updates days, weeks or even months ahead of others, which has been the case for years and indeed is the case for the latest Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Android 10 update.

First released in late December 2019, the Galaxy Note 9 One UI 2.0 update based on Android 10 hasn’t been captured in some markets yet, more than a month down the line.

So, what’s the deal? When will your Galaxy Note 9 finally switch to the new OS? In this article, we try to answer these questions with bits of information we’ve picked up here and there, hoping to give you an idea of the current One UI 2.0 global rollout status for the device.

Galaxy Note 9 Android 10 update is available

As noted, the update to Android 10 was first made available for owners of the Galaxy Note 9 in late 2019. However, this was for the Exynos variant (SM-N960F) in select European markets.

This is usually the case, where Exynos variants sold in Europe/Asia/Africa receive software updates, major or minor, ahead of their Snapdragon counterparts mostly sold in America and China.

Android 10 timeline for Snapdragon variant

Speaking of the Snapdragon variant, the official One UI 2.0 timeline for this variant placed the release date in March 2020. This was revealed in December 2019, but as of this writing, a few Snapdragon variants of the Note 9 have already been upgraded to Android 10.

So far, the OS has been received in multiple South American and Caribbean markets as well as in the U.S., but the latter in a limited capacity. Matter of fact, only the U.S. unlocked, AT&T, Xfinity Mobile and U.S. Cellular variants of the Note 9 have been upgraded to One UI 2.0 as of this writing.

What about Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint variants?

Besides AT&T, only Xfinity Mobile and U.S. Cellular variants of the Galaxy Note 9 have received the update to Android 10. As for those on Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint, the wait is still on. But until when?

According to Verizon, the Galaxy Note 9 One UI 2.0 update was expected before the end of January 2020, but here we are. Fresh reports have since pointed to February, but it’s only Sprint and perhaps T-Mobile that have mentioned specific dates of availability.

While folks on T-Mobile can expect the rollout to begin on February 23, those on Sprint will reportedly receive the OTA update from February 24 going forward.

Going by previous developments, the update should also arrive on Canadian variants of the Note 9 on the same date as T-Mobile – February 24.

You can install Android 10 right now on all U.S. variants

Since the Galaxy Note 9 Android 10 firmware for both carrier-locked and unlocked variants is available in the U.S., you can easily download the firmware and install it manually on your U.S. Note 9 (SM-N960U).

This way, you won’t have to wait in uncertainty not knowing when your carrier will release the update to Android 10, but of course, you may miss out on a couple or so carrier-specific features.

Of course, you can always get them once your carrier makes the official firmware available, but you’ll need to go the manual way as well and later OTA updates will continue coming your way as usual. If interested, check out this post.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
