New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on December 10, 2019) follows:

OxygenOS, i.e. the forked version of Android designed by OnePlus received many accolades. The Chinese OEM once managed to deliver a particular security update via OxygenOS update long before Google. However, they opted for a bi-monthly secuirty update rollout scheme.

Well, the after effects are pretty much obvious. The plan sounds good on paper, but owners of the OnePlus flagships are torned appart when they see entry level dirt cheap phones from another OEM are getting regular secuirty updates.

On the other hand, there are Open Beta builds. But it is difficult to use them in an environment that demands secure handsets, such as corporate networks with BYOD scheme. For example, OnePlus 7/7 Pro are stuck with October patch in stable channel, although November patch is available via latest beta.

Worry not, as the Shenzhen OEM is cooking something interesting. The Chinese counterpart of OxygenOS, aka HydrogenOS, is getting a new stable update (10.0.2) with November patch as well as plenty of bug fixes.

It is possible to cross-flash the HydrogenOS firmware in global (including Indian) OnePlus units, but you will some functionalities – including Google apps. Although they can be sideloaded, it is advisable to wait a little. A similar version of OxygenOS should be available soon.

OnePlus China has officially shared some details about this update in their forum. The new build comes with some camera related enhancements, while the logic of background app killing is improved. The complete changelog is as follows:

System

– Optimize the startup speed of some applications
– Improved the problem of unexpectedly closing software running in the background
– Improve the black / white screen of some applications
– Improve system stability and fix known issues
– Update Android security patch to 2019.11

Camera

Judging from the pattern, OnePlus might skip the December patch altogether for the regular OnePlus 7 family. The carrier branded models recently picked up November patch, but those are not directly controlled by OnePlus itself.
