My young padawans, Android 10 is finally here! Thanks to the magical superpowers of Google Engineers (i.e. Project Treble and associated modular architecture), a handful of third party phones besides Google Pixel lineup also got the update on day-one.

PiunikaWeb readers should recall the rumor about OxygenOS 10 (based on Android 10) availability for OnePlus phones on the same day as Pixel family. Matter of fact, the Shenzhen based company did publish the first Open Beta build (not stable though) for OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, built on top of Android 10.

Both OnePlus 7/7 Pro received a beta build of Android 10 less than a week ago, and it justifies the prompt availability of the Open Beta. But what about OnePlus 6/6T? These one year old phone duos are stuck with Developer Preview 3 since mid-July!

The last Open Beta builds for OnePlus 6 (OB24) and OnePlus 6T (OB16) were made available around one month ago. Are we not seeing the classic ‘new-phone-first’ saga, as OnePlus 6/6T are mysteriously ignored without any kind of official statement?

Well, hold your horses right there. OnePlus does not abandon them, as they have pushed a new set of Open Beta updates for the 2018 duo. Yes, they are still based on Android Pie, but you should consider them as the first stepping stone towards Android 10. I’m not exaggerating; see the changelog yourself.

Sounds cryptic? Looking back at the past, OnePlus did push similar full sized OTA packages for the sole reason to perform the re-partition of the internal memory of OnePlus 5/5T to introduce Project Treble. Perhaps OnePlus 6 and 6T require a similar groundbreaking change before Android 10 lands on them.

Our collaboration with the Oxygen Updater project helps us to locate the download links, even though OnePlus’ Manu J. has yet to make his announcement thread public.
