[Snapdragon variant too] Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ August security update starts rolling out, brings camera enhancement

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

While South Korean phone manufacturer Samsung’s current year flagship Galaxy S10 series is as yet sitting with the July security update, its predecessor Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are being bumped to the latest security patch, i.e. the August one.

Finally, after other OEMs like OnePlus, Xiaomi, Huawei, Sony, Nokia, and Realme, Samsung is also joining the race. If you remember, the July OTA brought the much awaited Night mode camera to Galaxy S9/S9+, but sadly, not on all devices.

While the US carrier locked variants of S9/S9+ on Verizon and AT&T network got the Night mode, unlocked models and the ones on T-Mobile network weren’t that lucky to get the feature. In fact, TMO didn’t provide the Night mode camera feature even to the Galaxy S10 lineup (S10/S10e/S10+).

Cut to now. Galaxy S9/S9+ phones are receiving the latest security update. Sized about 250MB, the August OTA bears build number G960FXXU6CSGD on Galaxy S9, while on Galaxy S9+ it reads G965FXXU6CSGD/G965FOXM6CSH1.

Apart from the latest security patch, the update also notifies to have improved the device’s camera performance. But what exactly? That hasn’t been specified. As for the changelog, here’s what it reads:

      What’s new
      -Improved performance – Camera
-The security of your device has been improved

FYI, the update is reportedly hitting Galaxy S9/S9+ units in the Germany region as of now. But a wider roll out should follow. Here is a user shared image of the software update screen of their Galaxy S9+ device:

It goes without saying that firmware updates are usually rolled out in batches, and the current patch is no different. So the OTA may take time to land on all Galaxy S9/S9+ unit. So hang in tight!

Also if you don’t wish to wait for the OTA, you can tab the update by heading to Settings> Software update> Download updates manually. Happy installing😊!

      Update (August 20)

After the Exynos variant, US unlocked Snapdragon Galaxy S9/S9+ units are getting the August security patch. However, camera night mode is still not there. For further info, see here.
