Original story (published on January 09, 2020) follows:

Sony went public with its official Android 10 plans in October 2019, over a month after the stable version of the OS arrived on the Google Pixels and Essential Phone.

Despite this announcement, Sony fans had to wait until early December to receive the first stable Android 10 update from the company. Somewhere along the way, though, there were some disappointments for owners of the Xperia XZ1, XZ1 Compact and XZ Premium.

The initial Android 10 rollout by Sony, as expected, targeted the newer Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 handsets and it reportedly improved the annoying fingerprint scanning experience. This happened despite the fact that the Xperia XZ3 had been testing the OS for months.

But the long wait for the Xperia XZ3 Android 10 update wasn’t going to take ages as the rollout kicked off a few days ago. Besides the XZ3, the stable Android 10 update is also rolling out to the Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Compact as well as the XZ2 Premium.

Now, according to the few that have already upgraded their Xperia XZ3 and Xperia XZ2 handsets to the latest Android 10, all is not rosy. A few niggly issues have popped up since, but the most annoying ones are the fingerprint and alarm bugs.

More affected Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ3 owners have taken to the official Sony forums to air their dissatisfaction at the new Android 10 update, further confirming that this isn’t an isolated issue.

Hi, after updated to android 10 the fingerprint sensor works slower and sometimes I need to hold my finger twice or even more times until the sensor recognizes the fingerprint.

After updating my phone to android 10, the fingerprint sensor is not working well anymore, there is a delay in reading fingerprint! Tried to delete fingerprints, and register a new ones, but after that it seems to work fine for a just a while, and then goes again with delays… Same thing after restarting the phone, it works fine at a beginning, and then goes with delays…

As noted, the Xperia XZ3 and XZ2 handsets are also experiencing some alarm-related issues after updating to Android 10.

After yesterday’s update to android 10 the alarm stopped working on my XZ2. Alarm won’t ring at any time. Anyone else came across with same issue? Is there any solution for this?

Other Xperia XZ3 and XZ2 owners have also reported issues related to excessive battery drain, a missing face unlock feature, poor Wi-Fi connectivity, and so on. While some of these issues can be fixed via a factory reset, others will require a software update from Sony to address them.

When exactly this bug-fixing update will be released is only known to Sony, but we will have our eyes on the developments and let you know when the rollout begins.

Update (February 17, 2020)

Sony has re-released a supposedly patched-up version of Android 10 for the Xperia XZ3 and XZ2 series. The new firmware keeps the same software version as the original Android 10 update. Details here.
