NOTICE: We’ve created an archive of all major developments related to the Samsung Galaxy S10 lineup. We are continuously updating that page with latest S10e/S10/S10+ news so that you don’t need to search for information related to the device on a daily basis. Head here to access that page.

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

While we are on the second day of August, Google has yet to announce the corresponding security patches for their phones. Surprisingly OnePlus beat them by rolling out the patch in the form of OxygenOS 9.5.11 for OnePlus 7 Pro.

Samsung Galaxy S10 lineup, on the other hand, is still stuck with July security patch level. In fact, the statement is only true for international S10e/S10/S10+ with Exynos SoC.

However, the US variants of the 10th anniversary edition Galaxy S series are lagging further. The carrier branded units got June security patches at the beginning of July (see the fallacy!). Sprint joined the race almost on the verge of August.

PiunikaWeb readers should remember that some Verizon S10 users received a mysterious OTA a few days ago. Dubbed as System Update 5 in the update prompt, there was no reference of the build (ASG8 as well) in Verizon update tracker.

Well, the page has been updated now by the big red one. According to them, that was merely a bugfix OTA. For the same reason, Verizon marked it as ‘System Update 4.5’.

System Update 4.5

The details:

Release date: 07/29/2019

Android Security Patch Level: June 1, 2019

Software Version: PPR1.180610.011.G973USQU2ASG8

What’s changing:

The current software update provides improvements to the pattern lock screen.

Moreover, the tracker now mentions the true ‘System Update 5’ for the Galaxy S10 series. Believe it or not, Verizon becomes the first wireless carrier in the USA to roll out the July security patch (of course in the month of August).

A handful of users have already received the OTA (build number ASGB) on their phones. Although the changelog talks only about new security patch, the fingerprint reader performance is allegedly improved as well.

It’s the July patch. I have noticed a much more responsive fingerprint scanner. This screen protector I have on was abysmal with reading my print now it’s like when I didn’t run one before. The updates were only a day apart for me one was ASG8 and now it’s ASGB

Hopefully other carriers will soon distribute the update to Galaxy S10 series. FYI, the bootloader version remains v2 in this OTA, thus technically you can downgrade all the way to the first June patch build.

Update (August 7)

After Verizon, AT&T is rolling out the July patch along with dedicated camera night mode for Galaxy Note 9 & S9 series. S10 gets the security patch too. Details here.
