[Official info+July patch] Verizon Galaxy S10 gets mysterious new update while 5G variant receives July security patch

Sprint Galaxy S10 users, rejoice! The wireless carrier finally started to rollout the June update since yesterday for S10e, S10 and S10+. What’s more, you can now unleash the true potential of your camera using the built-in night mode after installing this OTA.

Allow me to do a tiny recap: the build version of Sprint’s June update (which is available at the end of July!) is partially same as that of the July patch received by unlocked international Galaxy S10 units. Both are ASG8, although the global models now have an updated (v3) bootloader.

On the other hand, AT&T and Verizon distributed build ASF6 as June update for Galaxy S10 series – a few days after the T-Mobile OTA (build ASF7) got leaked. Now, now it seems that Verizon is pushing a second update in this month for the S10 lineup.

After deciphering the cryptic OTA information from Verizon’s customized OTA client, ‘System Update 5’ is nothing but the ASG8 build! Users, who already installed the update, confirmed the same.

The first and foremost unusual thing in this update is the status of the security patch level. They did not bump it up to July and there is no feasible explanation of this stance. Moreover, the official Verizon update tracker is still pointing to the ASF6 build as latest update (thus no changelog).

Talking about July patches, the 5G variant of Galaxy S10 (SM-G977U) on Verizon is getting its second OTA update. The build number is ASGC and unlike the LTE model, July security patch is actually there.

The big red becomes sloppy in this case too, as the update tracker page is not updated while writing this article. Open it up and you are greeted with ASFG build with June security patch as the latest software update for Galaxy S10 5G.

It is possible to download the update package from Samsung FOTA servers using tools like Frija or grab the ready-to-flash binary for manual installation. However, Samsung is shipping updated bootloaders in some builds, which require extra caution while flashing.
