Xiaomi is the leading smartphone vendor in India for one major reason – the budget Redmi line of devices. Sure, the independent Redmi hasn’t been around for a long time, but Redmi-branded devices have been selling for years not just in India, but also in other markets besides China.
More recently, Redmi devices can easily be found in more markets globally and not just in India and China. The company is pushing to dominate in markets that are price-sensitive when it comes to smartphone purchases – markets that industry leaders Samsung and Huawei have failed to capture.
Following the huge success with the value Poco F1, Xiaomi has recently unveiled a brand new pair of devices under the equally brand new Redmi series – the Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro. These two are undoubtedly among the best budget phones on the market right now.
A Super AMOLED screen without any blemishes ala the notch or hole punch? Check. Big battery? Check. Powerful processing specs and storage? Check. An elevating selfie camera? Check. An under-display fingerprint scanner? Check. USB Type-C and 3.5mm audio jack? Check. We can go on and on!
The best part of the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro, although a whole bunch of people might not agree, is the pricing. But not even this, coupled with what is a great piece of hardware overall could save the Redmi K20 from concerns.
I’m about to buy redmi k20. But it doesn’t have dc dimming. Because of that, does the screen flicker or cause eye irritation at lowest brightness?
Yeah, that’s right! DC Dimming is the in thing for smartphone buyers. After OnePlus 7 Pro popularized it, we’ve seen several other devices pick up the feature through software updates, including Xiaomi Mi 9.
To be fair, though, Xiaomi Mi 9 first got the DC Dimming feature in beta back in March, but it was until May that it went public while the Black Shark 2 ships with the feature out of the box.

Other devices that have picked up the feature include Vivo iQOO, Huawei P30, and OnePlus 6T.
Next in line to receive the DC Dimming feature, at least according to the information we have, is the Redmi K20. Responding to the concerned potential buyer of the K20, a moderator at Mi community has confirmed that DC Dimming will arrive later as a software update.

While the reply doesn’t have any timelines, the fact that the feature is currently under internal lab testing could suggest the rollout of the public beta isn’t too far away.
You are probably asking what is DC Dimming and why does it suddenly matter? Well, you’ve at some point probably noticed continuous flickering on fluorescent bulbs in your house. Similarly, some smartphone displays may develop this flickering when at the lowest brightness level.

At the launch of the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro, it had been confirmed that the latter will indeed support the DC Dimming feature. However, there was no mention of the standard K20 model. With the latest development, any doubts have now been quashed away.
