Android OEMs tend to release tons of patches after releasing a new phone. The hype is rather high at that time, thus the shortcomings and glitches can be easily located. Moreover, the companies usually gather public feedback regarding an experimental feature and roll it out after a while.

On the other hand, a few smartphone makers prefer to launch a particular model in a small region first. The consumers of that market are essentially playing the role of early beta testers. After a month or so, the company releases the phone globally with an updated firmware out of the box.

Talking about Redmi K20 Pro (which should be rebranded as Mi 9T Pro), Xiaomi is literally on fire in terms of fixing bugs and producing software updates for the phone. The phone received a rare recognition, as it became eligible for Android Q public beta testing right after public release.

Since then, the Chinese OEM brought face unlock as well as customizable lock screen clock support via OTA update. They also silently fixed the issue of accidental popping up of the selfie camera.

Redmi K20 Pro users in China received May 2019 security patch via MIUI 10.3.9.0 update, which became live only a couple of days ago. Perhaps it is the most short lived build in history, as Xiaomi is reported rolling out MIUI 10.3.10.0 for the phone.

The size of the incremental update is kind of moderate (279 MB), but the changelog looks rather interesting:

System

– Optimize in-game multi finger operation screen jitter problem

– Update Google Security patch (2019#6)

– Improved system security

Theme

– Add new wallpaper carousel function

– Add new praise function

– Add new topic label

– Optimize color ring setting

– Interactive repair call show setting

– Video wallpaper does not fit screen problem

– Fix repair theme font details page

– Preview image stretching problem

The automated translated text may look odd in some places, but it is sufficient to get the meaning. No doubt Xiaomi added tons of fixes in the theming section, but they also bundled the June 2019 security patch as well.

The multi-touch screen jittering problem was highlighted by us before, and Xiaomi fixed the glitches in internal closed beta builds of MIUI. Good to see that the patch is now part of the stable channel update, which could be beneficial for upcoming Mi 9T Pro.

Once again, I like to thank yshalsager and the Xiaomi Firmware Updater project for tracking the OTA update URLs.
