[Available on stable channel] Xiaomi reportedly fixes Redmi K20 Pro (Mi 9T Pro) multi touch jitter issue, releases kernel source

After separating from Xiaomi, Redmi did not want to limit themselves within the boundary of low and mid range Android phones. The highly anticipated Redmi K20 series marks the arrival of the pocket friendly flagships under the brand name.

Continuing their tortuous naming scheme, Xiaomi decided to rebrand the regular K20 and released it as Mi 9T in Europe. According to the rumors, the same phone could be sold in India as Poco F2, but don’t get your hopes up yet.

The Chinese OEM has already rolled out several incremental patches for both the Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro. However, early adopters are bugged with numerous touch sensitivity and jittering issues since the inception.

While some K20 Pro users are allegedly able to reduce the sensitivity issues by removing the built-in screen protector, others are still facing the glitches due to random jittering.

Xiaomi officially acknowledged the existence of the anomaly, but marked it as software related issue. According to them, the hardware should be fine and the bug can be squashed by OTA updates.

As a matter of fact, the OEM rolled out handful of closed test builds for the phone. The latest one (MIUI 9.6.13) reportedly comes with the proper fix.

Initial feedback from the beta testers are largely positive. Xiaomi is presumably monitoring the reports from the testers, and going to include the fix in the stable version of MIUI in near future.

On the other hand, Xiaomi released the kernel source for Redmi K20 Pro (codename: raphael) as well as Mi MIX 3 5G (codename: andromeda). Hopefully both of them will get huge custom development support from the Android modding communities.

Xiaomi will start public beta testing of MIUI for Redmi K20 Pro from June 21 in China. The details will be published on June 17.

The Pro variant of Redmi K20 is now receiving June security patch via MIUI 10.3.10.0 OTA in China. The update also brings the screen jitter fix in the stable channel. Details here.
