The desperately awaited Android 11 (Android R) beta update went public a few hours back, and the race among the other OEMs has also kick-started.

This time, out of nowhere, Xiaomi took the lead and announced that Mi 10 duo – Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro – will be getting the Android 11 Beta 1 update soon. Simultaneously, Poco conveyed the same for Poco F2 Pro. But then, these are only announcements, as the actual updates will take time to hit the units (that too in China first).

But when it’s about matching the pace with Google, OnePlus is the brand that has been on top of the charts for the past some time. And they don’t appear to be breaking their record anytime soon. Yes, this is about the latest-and-the-greatest Android 11 beta making its way to the OnePlus 8 duo.

Just a few days back, they promised the closed beta program for OnePlus 8 series, but before that the Android 11 beta developer preview is here for the early adopters and app developers. Considering there’s a risk of bricking the phone, the OEM has clearly specified the instructions for those who wish the install the ROM.

Following are the steps you need to follow while installing the Android 11 beta DP ROM:

  • Download the upgrade zip package using the following links:
    • OnePlus 8 Pro: Link
  • Copy the ROM upgrade package to your OnePlus 8/8 Pro storage
  • Hit the Settings -> System -> System Updates -> Click on the top right icon -> Select Local upgrade -> Click on the corresponding installation package -> Select Upgrade -> System upgrade completed to 100%.
  • Restart your OnePlus unit once the upgrade is complete. What next? Just relish the Android 11 beta DP on your phone.

Just in case you change your mind and wish to roll back to the stable Android 10, the step-by-step guide for that along with the download packages is also available. So here’s what you need to do.

  • Download the latest ROM zip package using the following links:
    • OnePlus 8 NA Version: Link
    • OnePlus 8 IN Version: Link
    • OnePlus 8 EU Version: Link
    • OnePlus 8 Pro NA Version: Link
    • OnePlus 8 Pro IN Version: Link
    • OnePlus 8 Pro EU Version: Link
  • Copy the Rollback package to the device storage
  • Open Settings -> System -> System Updates -> Click top-right icon -> Select Local upgrade -> Click on the corresponding installation package -> Select Upgrade -> System upgrade completed to 100%.
  • Restart your unit once the upgrade is complete. Aaand, you’re back to the stable Android 10.

Update 5 (August 31)

IST: 07:05 pm : The latest flagship devices from OnePlus, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro were expected to enter the Open Beta version of Android 11 at this time. However, it seems that the OEM ran into some issues and is now rolling out the Android 11 beta 4 update. For details, click here.

Update 6 (September 08)

IST: 06:03 pm: OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro users with the Chinese variants can now join the public beta program to try HydrogenOS 11 based on Android 11. The update is currently being reviewed by Google before it can go live. See the full story here.
