New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…

Original story (published on April 12, 2021) follows:

The Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro and Mi 11 Ultra are all part of Xiaomi’s recent flagship releases. These set of releases effectively supersede Xiaomi’s last year champs – the Mi 10 series.

Both devices may be flagship level but still do not come with Xiaomi’s latest MIUI 12.5 update and instead stick with the half-baked Android 11-based MIUI 12.

Xiaomi justified this by stating that they kickstart production much before a device’s official release and thus have to equip it with the latest software version available at the time of production.

Now, this was understandable with the Mi 11 that was released around a month ago – a time when MIUI 12.5 was still under its beta testing phase.

However, the Mi 11 Ultra/Pro become available at a time when phones like the Mi 10 Ultra are already running stable MIUI 12.5, at least in China. Thus it would have made more sense to ship them with MIUI 12.5 out of the box.

Nonetheless, being a flagship device sure has its plus points as the Mi 11 Ultra and Mi 11 Pro should both be updated to MIUI 12.5 pretty soon – much sooner than other midrange Xiaomi devices out there.

Xiaomi is also known to have pretty elaborate beta testing schemes for almost all of their devices released in the past couple of years and one can obviously expect the Mi 11 Ultra/Pro to be treated the same.

Such expectations have now been proven right as the MIUI 12.5 beta 21.4.9 release notes state that the first MIUI 12.5 internal test versions for the Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro and Mi 11 Ultra will be released this week itself.

For the uninitiated, the MIUI 12.5 beta 21.4.9 is the latest available beta update. Such updates are released almost thrice a week. The last set of releases bought about a bunch of new features like new Geometric Wallpapers and more.

Anyway, the official changelog for the MIUI 12.5 beta 21.4.9 update has been given below:

Another cool thing worth highlighting here is the new document scanning function that has been made available for several devices including the Mi 10/Pro/Ultra, Mi 11/Pro/Ultra, Redmi K30 Pro (POCO F2 Pro), and Redmi K30 Ultra.

The function intelligently eliminates distortions and even erases the binding from a book. The result is thus a PDF-like document that almost looks like it was typed out on the phone itself. Pretty neat, huh?

With that being said, be sure to keep an eye on our dedicated MIUI 12.5 update tracker so that you do not miss out on any new development.

Previously, some students reported that MIUI 12 was stuck on Ultra, and it was fixed on 12.5. I gave the upgrade test to see, 12.5 is really smooth, the animation opening and response are silky smooth as chocolate.
