The LG G8 ThinQ has already been updated to Android 10. We have seen the Sprint variant being among the first of its kind to get updated, then came the Verizon model after it.

After which another major US carrier, AT&T also rolled out the Android 10 update for the LG G8 ThinQ. Then it was pushed for the US Unlocked variant of the LG G8 ThinQ. T-Mobile was also quick to join this bandwagon and has already delivered the firmware update.

But with Android 10, a new problem started surfacing on the LG G8 ThinQ devices. Notably, according to several users, the Widevine certification for the device has gotten down to L3 which was supposedly L1 earlier.

For those who do not know, Widevine is a DRM (Digital Rights Management) technology for licensing, distribution and protecting the playback to protect any online content on channels like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, etc.

But if we go by recent update plan announcement by LG Korea for the Q2 of 2020, a bunch of performance updates is in the pipeline for various LG devices and among them is the LG G8 ThinQ that will get the Netflix HD playback support.

So, from this announcement, it is clearly visible that LG has officially acknowledged this issue and has a fix available to be released for the LG G8 ThinQ units.

However, readers should note that as this announcement was made by LG Korea, so the devices in Korea might be the first in line to pick up this update, whenever it is rolled out and gradually, will be pushed for other regions.

Besides, we have already entered the Q2 of 2020 meaning that the update can arrive anytime from now. We will keep you posted once it is available for the LG G8 units.
