Involvement of third parties (*cough* carriers *cough*) is one of the main reasons of delayed OTA delivery. The Android One program was created to speed up the situation, but nowadays OEMs have spoiled it as well. Nokia 8.1 is the only Android One phone to receive the Android 10 update till date.

Nokia 9 PureView should get the Android 10 OTA ‘soon’

Interestingly, LG also has an Android One phone in their inventory. Dubbed as LG G7 One, it is supposed to get the taste of Android 10 by the end of this year, although I would suggest to take the info with a pinch of salt.

Talking about LG, their smartphone division is really lagging compared to others in terms of software updates. Some of the flagship phones are still waiting for Android Pie update, while the OTA allegedly breaks crucial features.

Amidst the chaos, the Korean OEM is now pushing new security patches for a couple of phones.

We are talking about LG G7 ThinQ here; the US carrier unlocked variant to be precise. PiunikaWeb readers should recall that some carriers like Sprint and Verizon already delivered the October patch for this phone, but those were intended for different device variants (G710PM: Sprint, G710VMP: Verizon).

As you can see, carriers are faster than the OEM itself. The G710ULM variant aka US unlocked one is now getting the same patchset in the form of software version V20e. Matter of fact, another unlocked device picks up the October patch, which is none other than LG V35 ThinQ.

Got a software update today on my unlocked v35

Looks like it is just security, but will post more details after the patch is complete. Good to see LG doing an update. haha

Edit: Just says “security updates from Google”. Dated Oct07-2019

To recall, the ULM (unlocked) LG V35 ThinQ received stable Android Pie update back in August alongside LG G7.

Judging from the trend, Android 10 is nowhere near for this phone. A beta build of Android 10 is available for LG V50 ThinQ, but the future of older flagships is not very clear at this moment.
