New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 9, 2020) follows:

Huawei has quite a few smartphones lined up for receiving the Android 10 based EMUI 10 update. Most of the devices are expected to get the Android 10 update by the end of this month.

However, there is one smartphone that although was brought in 2019, is not going to receive the Android 10 (EMUI 10) update and that is the Huawei Y9 2019. Notably, the device is sold as Enjoy 9 Plus in China.

To recall, the Huawei Y9 2019 packs in features like Kirin 710, a 4,000 mAh battery, a 6.5-inch display, 3-6 GB of RAM, offers up to 128 GB of onboard storage.

In the camera department, it sports a dual-camera setup with 13 MP primary shooter at the rear and dual front camera setup with 16 MP primary lens.

However, all these specifications are not good enough for it to get upgraded with the EMUI 10 based on Android 10. PiunikaWeb readers should remember that the device got the EMUI 9.1 update back in August 2019.

Cut to now, in a tweet, Huawei India has responded clarifying that due to hardware limitations, the Huawei Y9 2019 cannot be upgraded to EMUI 10. Check out the tweet below:

Thank you for reaching out to us. We regret to inform you that EMUI 10.0 / Android 10 will not be available for your device due to hardware limitations as it requires higher hardware specifications for optimal performance. We appreciate your understanding and patience.

huawei y9 2019 no emui 10 update

Apparently, this makes sense because if we look back at the official roadmap announced by Huawei for EMUI 10 Android 10 update, Huawei Y9 2019/Enjoy 9 Plus was not even listed in it.

So, with this, hopes of getting Android 10 based EMUI 10 for the Huawei Y9 2019 bites the dust. Let us know in the comments below what are your thoughts about this development.

Update 1 (January 25, 2020)

The matter regarding Android 10 update for the Huawei Y9 (2019) has taken a new turn. Reportedly, a petition has been filed by one of the users of Huawei Y9 (2019) on Change.org, demanding Android 10 update for the device.

Interestingly, at the time of writing this post, 1,675 people have already signed this petition while the target is set at 2,500. You can read about the petition in more detail below:

Huawei has confirmed the EMUI 10 update, based on Android 10, and continues to add more phones and has not confirmed the Y9 2019, which is also entitled to receive at least one last system update like the Mate 20 Lite, so we need to know if they are going to update us and when, we also have the right to update, even if it is the last one to Android 10, all because we are from the Y Line, Huawei almost do not care about their Y line devices, therefore almost never update them, only a few basic security patches up to a certain time … And like others have paid for Huawei phones, although we have bought the most basic Huawei Midrange, we also have the right to be included in the update list to EMUI 10, please and thank you, att.All Huawei Y9 2019 Phone Users

Now it will be interesting to see whether Huawei takes this user petition into consideration or not as it has already made it clear that there will be no Android 10 update for the Huawei Y9 (2019).

Update 2 (January 27, 2020)

Huawei has reportedly scrapped its plans not to roll out the Y9 2019 Android 10 update, this time promising to bring it in the coming months. Details here.

Update 3 (January 29, 2020)

It’s official! Huawei Y9 2019 Indian variant will not get EMUI 10 (Android 10) update rather global variants will get it. Huawei Nova 3/3i also not to be upgraded to EMUI 10 instead will receive regular security updates. You can read the full story here.
