The number of Huawei/Honor devices running on a non-Google version of Android is growing steadily. It all started with the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro in late 2019 and today, more than 10 Huawei/Honor devices come preinstalled with HMS in place of the usual GMS.
What this means for these devices is that there is no access to the Google Play Store and all the services/apps attached to the big G. For the Chinese market, this is no big deal. But for the rest of us, it is. Still, Huawei treads on.
More recently, the Chinese company announced the latest installation to its in-house EMUI skin, 10.1. Taking over from 10.0, the updated EMUI 10.1 was unveiled on March 26 and started going to the Mate 30 and P30 series in early April.
The Mate 20 series was also quick to it and so was the Honor V30 series, although the latter’s update arrived as Magic UI 3.1. The base OS in ether case remains at Android 10, but as expected, there is plenty of new stuff in the updated 10.1 version.
Over the past couple or so weeks, Huawei has managed to push the new EMUI 10.1 update to more devices. A good number of Honor devices have also managed to pick up updates to Magic UI 3.1.
In either case, the updates are still in beta and limited to the Chinese market, although not for long. This hasn’t stopped the company from letting fans know about the progress of the adoption process, which has now clocked over 30 Huawei/Honor devices.
EMUI 10.1 beta is now available for the Huawei P30, P30 Pro, Mate 30 4G, Mate 30 5G, Mate 30 Pro 4G, Mate 30 Pro 5G, Mate 30 RS, Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 RS, Mate 20X 4G, Mate 20X 5G, Mate X, Mate Xs, Nova 6, Nova 6 5G, Nova 6 SE, Nova 5, Nova 5 Pro, Nova 5i Pro, and Nova 5Z.
The update is also available for the likes of the Enjoy 10S, Honor 20 Lite, MediaPad Pro, and the three variants of the MediaPad M6 family alongside the Honor 9X and 9X Pro.
On the receiving end of the Magic UI 3.1 beta update are the aforementioned Honor V30 and V30 Pro alongside the Honor V20, Honor 20, Honor 20 Pro, Honor 20S, and Honor Magic 2.
With beta testing already up and running in China, the global variants of all these devices should be in line to receive the stable Magic UI 3.1 or EMUI 10.1 update pretty soon, probably in May 2020 going forward. We will update you about it.
