[Update: Revised timeline out] Nokia officially acknowledges Android 11 update release delay, confirms majority of phones to receive OS this month
New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on April 12, 2021) follows:
Irrespective of being one of the leading smartphone brands in the market, Nokia didn’t quite live up to the expectations especially at the software development front.
As part of the Android One program, one would expect an expeditious rollout of Android updates from the company and is one of the prominent reasons why people opt for Nokia.
But Nokia only had disappointment to serve the huge user base with first, much to our surprise, not being part of the Android 11 beta program and then the inability to meet the Android 11 rollout deadline.
The company finally shows some positive signs of commencing the Android 11 update and only a month’s delay shouldn’t hurt much.
Nokia 2.3, Nokia 4.2, and Nokia 8.1 which were earlier scheduled sometime in the first quarter have recently bagged the Android 11 update (1, 2, 3) and are the most recent additions to the Android 11 list.
This isn’t as bad as we thought, software updates can sometimes be a bit complex to code plus the overall stability has to be maintained before finally airing the update.
In fact, the company has now come forward to officially acknowledge that they couldn’t keep with their own schedule.
In a Q&A, Adam Ferguson, the head of Marketing at HMD Global went on to assure everyone that a major rollout drive is scheduled this month.
Most Nokia phones are scheduled to receive the Android 11 update in April
When asked about the culprit behind the delay, Adam put the blame on the fact that Nokia was not part of the Android 11 beta program this year.
We are indeed not where we wanted to be. The delay has to do with the fact that Nokia was not part of the Android Developer Program for Android 11
But that shouldn’t be a hindrance now, the company has finally opened the floodgates from which more devices will pass through in the coming days.
From what it appears, it will be the Nokia 2.2, Nokia 5.3, Nokia 1.3, Nokia 2.4, and Nokia 3.4 next in line to receive the Android 11 update.
We have come to a point where the announcement post could go live any time so be sure to follow our Nokia Android 11 update tracker.
