[Update: Dec. 09] Samsung One UI 2.5 update: List of Galaxy devices likely to get it

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

NOTICE: We’ve prepared a One UI 2.5 tracker for devices that are getting the update, and it’s being continuously updated with new entries.

Original story (published on June 9, 2020) follows:

Samsung is getting ready to announce new smartphones namely the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Fold 2. The phones may make their debut in August 2020 at what is set to be the company’s biggest summer event.

According to reports, the Note 20 and Fold 2 will likely be joined by other devices such as the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Galaxy Tab S7, and, potentially, a refreshed Galaxy Watch.

All of these smartphones are expected to come pre-installed with the new Samsung One UI 2.5 skin, up from the One UI 2.1 that powers the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Z Flip 4G out of the box.

The company recently hinted at an imminent rollout of the update, but it’s unlikely to roll out to older devices before the Note 20 and co. arrive, you know, just like the case of One UI 2.1 that has now found its way to older devices.

Samsung devices eligible for One UI 2.5 update

As of this writing, Samsung hasn’t provided an official list of devices that will benefit from the One UI 2.5 update. But we do have an idea of the devices that will receive the update.

Back when One UI 2.0 started rolling out widely, many device owners noticed that the new Android 10 gestures weren’t supported in third-party launchers. Samsung later revealed that this support will be added with the One UI 2.5 update.

What this implies is that all Samsung devices running One UI 2.0 or One UI 2.1 must be updated to One UI 2.5 in order to gain support for Android 10 gestures in third-party launchers. Does this guarantee that all devices on Android 10 will get updated to One UI 2.5?

In the event that some of the devices above miss out on the One UI 2.5 update, how else will they get support for Android 10 gestures in third-party launchers? Perhaps through minor security updates? Maybe.

Otherwise, they completely miss out on the feature, which would be quite unfortunate for those who wish to access the new Android 10 gestures inside their favorite third-party launcher.

Once again, the list above isn’t official, so expect changes whenever Samsung goes public with official details of devices that will be upgraded to One UI 2.5. For an early look into devices that will get One UI 3.0 based on Android 11, route here.

      Update 3 (August 12)

Samsung’s latest flagships, the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra come with some fantastic stock wallpapers and apps that are part of the One UI 2.5 update. And thanks to some modders, Samsung users with devices running on Android 10 can also experience the new apps and wallpapers. See more details here.

      Update 4 (August 19)

Samsung’s One UI 2.5 update may bring support for Android 10 gestures to third-party launchers. Currently, the Android 10 gestures don’t play well with third-party homescreen alternatives such as Nova Launcher, Action Launcher, and more. Check out more details here.
