New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 31, 2020) follows:

Earlier today, a beta build of Android 10 for Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 surfaced on the internet. After a brief amount of dilemma, the Taiwanese OEM has officially confirmed that the stable build is on the horizon. Well, looks like the same saga is happening with ZenFone Max Pro M2!

The second generation ZenFone Max Pro came in the same year (2018) as the original one. Asus trimmed the huge bezels in the display panel and added a notch. They also upgraded the processor from Snapdragon 636 to Snapdragon 660, albeit the battery capacity remained unchanged.

The phone was launched with Android Oreo, and Android Pie update came during Q2 of 2019. This lineup is known for their close to stock Android skin. As a result, the arrival of Android 10 (albeit in beta form) for ZenFone Max Pro M1 was not quite surprising.

In case of ZenFone Max Pro M2, the current Android 10 beta firmware is carrying the build number 17.2018.1912.409. It also features December 2019 security patch. As for comparison, the leaked build for ZenFone Max Pro M1 is tagged as 17.2017.1911.407 and bundled November 2019 patch.

FYI, both of these devices received December 2019 patch on top of Android Pie during the mid of last month. We still don’t know whether Asus will deliver a new build with January (or perhaps February) patch as the stable version of the update or not.

In case you want to play with the current build, remember that this is still beta. Critical components like SafetyNet might not work, so banking apps or Google Pay would stop working. If the phone is your daily driver, keep a safe distance from the non-stable firmware packages.

That being said, we are still offering the direct download link of the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2 Android 10 (beta) package. Regular users can flash it right away via stock recovery, while TWRP users might need to modify the updater script a little bit.
