In episode 10 of Realme’s YouTube series dubbed #AskMadhav, the company responded to several feature requests from fans and among them was the system-wide dark mode that has been the major highlight of Android 10 OS.

The update to Android 10 brings a system-wide dark mode feature that turns every aspect of the UI and specific apps dark. This is unlike Android Pie dark mode where it applied only to select menus and the Settings panel.

While Realme has already revealed its Android 10 update plans beginning Q1 2020, you won’t have to wait until then to receive system-wide dark mode on some of your Realme handsets.

The company last month confirmed that dark mode will begin rolling out in November beginning with the likes of Realme XT. It seems the Realme 5 Pro will be next in line now that the Chinese variant of the phone – Realme Q – is receiving dark mode in the latest update.

Realme 5 Pro aka Realme Q

The new OTA update is arriving as version RMX1971_11_A.08, up from version RMX1971_11_A.07 and is part of the latest October security patch. The incoming Realme Q update has plenty to offer besides dark mode and October patches, as you can see in the full changelog below (translated from Chinese via Google Translate).

Again, the Realme Q and Realme 5 Pro are identical twins, which means the latter should also receive the dark mode update alongside its October security patches, although this is just a hunch.

Also receiving a new software update in China is the flagship Realme X2 Pro. Matter of fact, this is the first software update for the device and is arriving as version A.10, tagging along October security patches, some bug fixes, and performance enhancements.

The Realme X2 Pro won’t arrive in India until December 2019, which is a pretty long wait for a device that has been selling for a couple or so weeks already. It remains to be seen whether the oomph to get one will still be as strong as it is at the moment.

We will keep an eye on the dark mode update for other Realme devices globally and bring you the latest updates as and when we get them. Stay tuned to our Realme section so that you don’t miss out on these updates and other related coverage.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
