This story is being continuously updated….new updates are being added at the bottom…..

The frequency of Android 9.0 Pie updates has suddenly picked up pace, so much so that we at PiunikaWeb are spotting Pie on multiple devices from different manufacturers on daily basis. Take for example two of our today’s coverages, which talk about Android Pie going live on Vivo V9 & Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 phones.

Presumably, the OEMs are rushing to push Pie considering the clock’s ticking and Google may rollout the latest Android Q anytime now. The phone manufacturers know very well that as soon as that’ll happen, any major device still waiting for Pie will be no less than an embarrassment for them.

Talking about smartphone manufacturers, Huawei has been doing a good job with rolling out pie updates to its devices, and in continuation with that, the update has now been rolled out to Honor 7x devices

Powered by HiSilicon Kirin 659, Honor 7X (aka Huawei Mate SE in the US) is the OEM’s 2017 device. The phone originally shipped with Android Nougat with EMUI 5.1 on top and was bumped to Android Oreo 8.1 just last year. Since then, device owners have been curios about Android Pie/EMUI 9.0.

As we highlighted in one of our recent coverages, while the phone was initially supposed to get EMUI 9.0 (by July end), for over past few weeks, Honor India has been informing users that Honor 7X will be upgraded to the latest EMUI 9.1 (by July 30 i.e today) instead.

And now that it’s the day i.e. July 30, the Chinese OEM has began pushing Android Pie with EMUI 9.1 to Honor 7X phones. Bang on time, we must say. The info is coming straight from Honor India’s official Twitter handle, saying:

We would like to inform you that we have started rolling out Android Pie with EMUI 9.1

While Honor India says they’ve initiated the rollout, we haven’t yet been able to locate any reports from Honor 7X users saying they’ve received EMUI 9.1. Probably because the updates are rolled out in batches and may take time to reach the devices.

Rest assured, we are in a look out for more info, and will update the story as and when we get hands on the EMUI 9.1 update-related information like firmware build number and changelog.

Update 1 (July 31)

Here are some user shared images of EMUI 9.1 on Honor 7X. The update bears build number 9.1.0.140 and weighs ~3.5GB.

NOTE: As per the latest info, Honor 8X is also supposed to get the latest EMUI 9.1 update today onward. EMUI 9.1, as you may know, adds support for GPU Turbo 3.0, EROFS technology & ARK Compiler. For more Huawei/Honor related updates and news, interested readers may head here.

P.S. The OEM is holding a ‘Free EMUI Upgrade Campaign‘ in India to help Huawei/Honor phone users who haven’t yet received the EMUI OTA, that too irrespective of whether the device is in warranty or out of it. From July 15 to Oct 12, many Honor/Huawei phones can get a free EMUI upgrade from the Exclusive Service centers.

PiunikaWeb is a unique initiative that mainly focuses on investigative journalism. This means we do a lot of hard work to come up with news stories that are either ‘exclusive,’ ‘breaking,’ or ‘curated’ in nature. Perhaps that’s the reason our work has been picked by the likes of Forbes, Foxnews, Gizmodo, TechCrunch, Engadget, The Verge, Macrumors, and more.
