As of last week (July 20 onward), Chinese tech giant Huawei began pushing Android Pie-based latest EMUI 9.1 to different Huawei/Honor phones namely Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, Mate 10 Porsche Design, Mate RS Porsche Design, P20, P20 Pro, nova 3, Honor 10, Honor V10 (aka View 10) & Honor Play.

However, in this list, Honor 9N (aka Honor 9i in China) wasn’t included, which the OEM recently bumped to EMUI 9.1.

EMUI 9.1 update, as most of you may know, brings along EROFS technology support, GPU TURBO 3.0 support, ARK Compiler support, and other features. Sadly, Honor 9N EMUI 9.1 update didn’t bring some of these key features.

Honor 9N is the Huawei sub-brand’s mid-range device launched last year, that is fueled by HiSilicon Kirin 659 SoC. The phone shipped with Android Oreo layered with EMUI 8 out of the box, and was expected to get Android Pie based EMUI 9.0 sometime during this month.

However, as we mentioned in the beginning, the phone got it see EMUI 9.1 instead. Not even a week, and yet another update has been pushed to Honor 9N units. The new patch (sized ~240MB) bumps the version from 9.1.0.112 to 9.1.0.116, and also fixes a screen freezing-related issue.

Here’s what the complete changelog reads:

[Change log]
This update will make a improvement in performance

[Freeze issue fix]
After the software upgrade, device was going on freeze straight. This issue has been fixed.

[Device is more secure]
upgrade is integrated with latest security security patches which makes your device more secure.

As can be seen in the changelog, the update also brings the latest security patch, which should ideally be the July one, but hasn’t been clearly stated. Anyway, as is usually the case with firmware updates, they roll out in batches, so same must be the case with this update which fixes the screen freeze bug.

The patch may take time to make it to all Honor 9N devices. So hang in tight, as you may get to see the notification soon. And yes, if you’ve already received the patch, feel free to drop a comment and share with us your experience about it.

NOTE: Did you know the OEM is holding a Free EMUI Upgrade Campaign in India to help Huawei or Honor phone users who haven’t yet received the EMUI OTA, that too irrespective of whether the device is in warranty or out of it?

Scheduled from July 15 to Oct 12, phones namely Huawei Y9, Huawei P20 Pro, Huawei P20 lite, Huawei Nova 3i, Huawei Nova 3, Honor View 10, Honor Play, Honor 9lite, Honor 8X, Honor 8 Pro, Honor 10, Honor 7X, & Honor 9N can get a free EMUI upgrade from the Exclusive Service centers.
