[Arrives in Italy] LG G7 ThinQ Android Pie (9.0) update may take time to reach all units
This story is being continuously updated….new updates are being added at the bottom…..
We’re getting close to the official release of the search giant Google’s this year’s smartphone Android OS upgrade, Android Q. But some users with compatible devices from different OEMs are still sitting tight for last years’s Android 9.0 Pie. One such smartphone manufacturer, users of which await Pie is LG.
The Korean OEM recently pushed the Pie update to LG G7 ThinQ devices (in regions other than their home country South Korea, which got to taste Pie back in January). G7 ThinQ is the company’s 2018 high-end device that is powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC and comes with Android Oreo out of the box.
But has the Pie update which was pushed recently landed on all units? Apparently, no.
While Android Pie landed on some LG G7 ThinQ devices, a quick look at online discussion platforms like Reddit and Twitter reveals many haven’t got the update till date. Here’s what some of the users who haven’t yet received Android 9.0 Pie update on their phones have to say:
Seemingly the company is aware of this. While reverting back to some such queries LG Mobile South Africa recently said (on Twitter) they update may land by the end of August. It means, Android Pie will take another couple of months to make it to all LG G7 ThinQ units.
We cannot confirm the official date of the update at the moment , but we are expecting it by the end of August.
Other than this, LG Mobile South Africa has also shared information about LG G8 ThinQ & LG V50’s arrival in the region. LG G8 ThinQ, as you may know is G7 ThinQ’s successor which was released this year only. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset and embraces Pie out of the box.
Similarly, LG V50 is another high-end devices that is fueled by Snapdragon 855 processor. The phone embraces Android Pie layered with LG UX 8.0. Going by the latest information, both LG G8 ThinQ and V50 are likely to arrive in the South African market by the end of August.
Looking at the choice of words, it’s ambiguous whether LG Mobile South Africa is referring to the device’s arrival of talking about an update’s arrival on the units. There could be a possibility they respond to users as if they were inquiring about an update.
Assuming they are talking about the phone’s arrival only, those of you who are planning to get hands on either G8 ThinQ or V50 in South Africa, you’ll have to wait for few more months.
