AT&T recently pushed Android Pie update to the South Korean electronics manufacturer LG’s 2018 V35 ThinQ devices. The update bears build number PKQ1.181105.001 and brings along the May security patch. It’s a high-end phone with Snapdragon 845 SoC that shipped with Android 8.0 Oreo.

FYI Pie on LG V35 ThinQ initially landed a couple of months back, but only on the South Korean region devices. And now AT&T has released Pie for V35 variants in the US as the carrier is based there. Among LG’s V series, V30 is another phone users of which are gawking Android Pie’s arrival.

For a quick refresher, V30 was launched in 2017. That time it was a high-end phone powered by Snapdragon 835 chipset. It came with Android 7.1.2 (Nougat) layered with LG UX 6 out of the box. A year later from launch, the phone was upgraded to Android Oreo, and since then it awaits Pie.

Forget the major OS update, what’s saddening is that since 2018, the phone hasn’t even received regular security updates. Just a quick look at micro-blogging site Twitter, and you can find many users complaining about that. And same is the case with V30+, which is the 128GB storage variant of V30.

But things are finally changing. After months of radio silence, LG V30 and V30+ (or V30 Plus) are now getting the May security updates. Hold your horses, as it’s just the security update. No Pie yet.

But considering these phones were lacking even the monthly updates, this also appears to be a good news for the time being. The information has been shared by many LG V30 and V30+ users on Twitter as well as Reddit.

The update on LG V30+ bears build number OPR1.170626.266 (sized ~970MB). The software version for V30 is V300S21S_00, which is for South Korean region devices. As can see in the following images, the update size varies for both V30+ (970MB) (left image) and V30 (200MB) (right image).

As is usually the case with phased roll outs, the May patch may take take time to make it to all LG V30 and V30+ units. So hang in tight.

Also while LG V30/V30+ users are desperately waiting for Android Pie, it’s worth mentioning a Redditor has shared LG V30+ may get Pie on 28 of this month. The user says this info has been shared with them by some one from the LG devs team. This looks like a wild rumor though.

Anyway, we’ll be keeping an eye on Android Pie’s arrival on LG V30/V30+ and will let you know as and when the much awaited updates get live on the units. In the meantime, feel free to let us know how the May patch is acting on your units by dropping a comment below.
