This story is being continuously updated….new updates are being added at the bottom…..

South Korean electronics manufacturer LG’s 2017 high-end smartphone LG V30 is one of the OEM’s V series device which awaits Android 9.0 Pie. Fueled by Snapdragon 835 chipset, the phone originally shipped with Android 7.1.2 (Nougat) layered with LG UX 6, and was bumped to Oreo last year.

FYI LG V30 ThinQ and its 128GB storage variant LG V30+ were ignored for a long time as the devices did not receive even the monthly security patches. But that finally changed recently, when after months of radio silence the OEM pushed the May security patch to LG V30 and V30+ devices.

Device users were indeed relieved to have received at least a security patch after months, but at the same time are equally curious about when the OEM plans to release the long-awaited Android 9.0 Pie.

As you may know, carriers like AT&T recently pushed Pie (PKQ1.181105.001) to LG V35 ThinQ, the update which the OEM otherwise released for V35 devices in the South Korean region few months back. LG V40 ThinQ also got the update sometime back, but V30 users are still gawking.

Going by what the company earlier said, Android Pie was expected to arrive on LG V30 units in the US region, irrespective of the carrier, during Q2 this year. Though the OEM never shared an exact time frame. And now that Q2 is nearing its end, LG has come up with an updated status.

LG’s official Korean website has now revealed the schedule for V30 ThinQ Pie OS update deployment. The notice reads the update – which was earlier planned to be outed in Q2 – has now been shifted to July. The reason given for delay is the integration of LG’s Android Pie based UX 8.0.

Here’s what the notice reads (translated from Korean):

We have tried to provide the V30 ThinQ Pie OS software in the second quarter we mentioned through the bulletin, but we will adjust the distribution schedule to July to compensate for the essential improvements found during the quality stabilization process.
I’m sorry to have to adjust the schedule in order to provide better software quality because it was an unavoidable thing to add new UX UX 8.0 to show better function to our customers.

Here’s what the complete announcement says:

That means LG V30 ThinQ users will have to wait for another month to get to experience Android 9.0 Pie. Sad but that’s how it currently stands.

Rest assured, like always, we are keeping an active track on the matter will let you know as and when the update gets live or in case there is a change in plan again. Though we hope the latter doesn’t happen (fingers crossed).

Update 1 (July 15)

Kernel source code for LG V30 Android Pie has been listed on the official OpenSource Code Distribution site. Pie source code can be seen for H930 (European model) and H930DS (Hong Kong model) in the following image.

Though kernel source code’s availability doesn’t confirm that Pie is imminent, it surely conveys that it’s being worked on. Here’s hoping it gets delivered in time, i.e. in couple of weeks.

Update 2 (July 16)

Update 2 (July 27)

The LG V30 Android Pie 9.0 stable update has started rolling out. The update carries a build number of PKQ1.190414.001, and includes July patch. It’s currently rolling out in Europe. More info here.

NOTE: The OEM recently also revealed that LG G7 ThinQ (the Korean OEM’s 2018 high-end device) Android 9.0 Pie update may arrive in August. You can find the complete coverage here. And for more bugs/issues, news and stuff related to LG smartphones, interested readers may head here.
