Zwift is an innovative system that combines physical activity with a multiplayer game where you compete and interact with other users.

The system offers a great way to make workouts much more interesting, although users have also experienced some issues in the recent past (1, 2).

Now, a recent Zwift update (v1.33) is causing the ERG mode and drops to be broken or not working properly.

Zwift ERG mode and drops not working after v1.33 update

One of the best Zwift features is allowing you to emulate a cycling experience using the necessary hardware. The ‘ERG mode’ is one of the features that exploit this virtue.

If you have the ‘tandem’ peripheral, the ERG mode automatically controls the resistance to pedaling. This is to ensure that it always stays at the power output that the user requires.

But it seems a recent Zwift update ‘broke’ the ERG mode. This basically means that the tandem offers no resistance to the pedaling.

V1.33 – ERG mode problem

I just upgraded to v1.33 on PC running Win11. My trainer is a Wahoo Kickr gen 1. Up until now, everything has been running as advertised.

I do a workout ride nearly every day. After the latest update, ERG mode isn’t working.

In addition, the drops got stuck and stopped rising according to the pedaling. Drops are basically Zwift’s virtual currency.

Normally, the more you exert yourself in your physical activity, the more drops you receive. You can spend these drops in the ‘game’ virtual store. But now, user accounts are not receiving any more of this currency.

There is still no official acknowledgment of these issues from the Zwift team, but we will update this story once new related relevant developments emerge.
