[Updated] Xiaomi MIUI 12 Super Wallpapers: How to download & install live version on any Mi, Redmi & Poco device without root

One of the coolest features that come with Xiaomi’s MIUI 12 skin is the Super Wallpapers. The animated wallpapers work in sync on the homescreen and lockscreen making the animation of unlocking the phone appear seamless.

Super wallpapers aren’t the same as traditional live wallpapers which are simply moving images. Therefore, applying a live wallpaper to your lockscreen and homescreen will not give you the same effect as Xiaomi’s Super Wallpapers. Further, these cool wallpapers aren’t available on all MIUI 12 eligible devices.

Devices such as the Redmi K20 Pro and Poco F1 have also not got support for Super Wallpapers the MIUI 12 update. So at the time of writing this there are only a handful of phones from Xiaomi that are eligible the feature.

Naturally, this has left many users disappointed with Xiaomi and are looking for ways to get the 3D animated wallpapers on their device. There are a few workarounds that are available, however, those require you to either have a rooted device or to flash a ROM.

Speaking of which, the Xiaomi Mi 9T/Redmi K20 got the Super Wallpapers option with the Xiaomi.eu MIUI 12 Beta ROM last month. Fortunately, there’s a way to get Super Wallpapers on your device without flashing a custom ROM or having a rooted phone.

The process to get the 3D live wallpapers running on any Xiaomi phone was shared by a user on the Mi Community. So in this guide, we’ll be taking a look at the steps to get the Super Wallpapers from MIUI 12 running on your Xiaomi phone.

First off, you will need to download the Super Wallpapers on your device. To do so, click on the download link provided below:

Download: Super Wallpapers “Live Version”.

Once downloaded, you will have to install the APK files individually via the File Manager application. After doing that, you will have to download the Google Wallpapers app from the Play Store. Launch the Google Wallpapers app and then tap on the Live Wallpapers section.

Here you should be able to see the new Super Wallpapers from MIUI 12 appear. Select the wallpaper you want to use and then tap on Set Wallpaper. A pop-up box will appear on your screen asking whether to apply the wallpaper to the Home screen or the Homescreen and lock screen.

Of course, select the latter option and then exit the application. Now you should see the 3D live wallpaper on the homescreen. Further, if you lock the screen and unlock it again, the Super Wallpaper will be applied on the lockscreen as well.

Of course, applying the live wallpaper will drain the battery a tad faster. Thus, if you’re looking to extend your battery life, you may want to consider switching to a static wallpaper.

IST 04:14 pm: In a new Q&A session on the Mi forum, Xiaomi engineers have coughed up some more details on why the MIUI 12 Super Wallpapers aren’t available for all devices. Apart from the high-end specifications, even the display type plays a key role since Super Wallpapers are suitable for OLED screens. Full comment here.
