New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on December 11, 2019) follows:

Android TV is Google’s way of finding a place in your living room. The search giant launched its first Android TV initiative five years ago after successfully making Android a part and parcel of our hands.

Google releases an Android TV version with every iteration of its popular Android OS. While the latest Android 10 is slowly making its way to smartphones as the year trickles down, the story has been quite the opposite on the television front.

Over the recent past, we’ve seen plenty of Android TV devices receiving their updates to Android Pie, which is by no means the latest version expected. But OEMs can be excused on the grounds that Google had not released the updated Android 10 TV.

That, however, is changing thanks to Google’s recent announcement that Android 10 TV is finally available. But since Android TVs are only but receiving their Pie updates at this point in time, the wait for Android 10 TV is set to be painfully long.

Matter of fact, not every eligible Android TV device out there has picked up the stable update to Android Pie TV. The Mi Box S, for instance, is only receiving its third Android Pie TV beta update as I write this.

The update is rolling out over the air and weighs in at a significant 624MB, bringing along improvements to system stability as well as the usual bug fixes and optimizations, much like the previous beta 2.

The incoming Mi Box S Android Pie beta 3 update is airborne, meaning it may take several days before all units participating in the program receive the download notification. You can either wait or grab the OTA file below for manual installation.

  • Device: Mi Box S
  • Channel: Global Beta
  • Version: 2231

It’s less than a month since Xiaomi Mi Box S first picked up its Android Pie beta update. But for how longer the beta testing program will continue we cant tell. Hopefully, the stable version arrives before the year ends.

Update (January 08, 2020)

The stable version of Android Pie TV is now rolling out to Mi Box S owners who weren’t in the beta program. More details here.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
