Xiaomi is known for its budget-centric approach to smartphone pricing that has seen it shake a market that was once dominated by Samsung, forcing the latter to rethink its strategy in the budget smartphone segment.

It is because of Xiaomi’s dominance in the price-conscious Indian smartphone market that Samsung went back to the drawing board, coming back with great devices like the Galaxy A50 and co. But Xiaomi isn’t just stopping at the smartphone level.

With Samsung having countered Xiaomi’s efforts in the budget smartphone segment, the latter is now eying to destabilize the former’s smart TV market with crazy affordable offerings that will take the Korean tech giant a lot more than pricing to beat.

Besides the impressive prices, Xiaomi is also taking software updates serious, something that has always been a problem with smart TVs. In late August, Xiaomi started rolling out Android Pie update to the Mi TV 4A Pro and Mi TV 4C Pro.

At the time, Xiaomi’s Product Manager for Mi TV lineup Mr. Sudeep Sahu promised to bring the Pie update to more Mi TVs and while the wait has been quite long, those using the Mi TV 4A Pro can finally join the park.

Xiaomi started testing Android Pie on the old Mi TV 4A, both 32 and 43-inch models, in late June, but the duo isn’t featured in the latest Mi TV Android Pie update. Apparently, Xiaomi encountered some issues that could delay the rollout of Pie.

For those who own the 49-inch Mi TV 4A Pro, the said Android Pie update is arriving over the air as software version R3773. As promised, the update is accompanied by official support for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

Also receiving a new OTA update is the 65-inch Mi TV 4X. The update is arriving as build number R2027 and since this model comes preinstalled with PatchWall 2.0 based on Android Pie, there are no changes to the base OS.

Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
