This month is nearing its termination and phone makers are after firing up the monthly security updates to all eligible devices. The Korean OEM Samsung has already bumped their current year flagship Galaxy S10 series, Note 10, and older devices like Galaxy S9/S9+, Note 9 & Note 8 to the latest patch.

2017 Galaxy S8/S8+ devices – which have already received two promised major OS upgrades in form of Oreo & Pie and now continue receiving the monthly security updates – also received the latest August update a few days back. But the circulation was limited to European Exynos models only.

The update however didn’t bring along the awaited Call and Message Continuity feature.

Few days later, the US carrier T-Mobile also pushed the August OTA for the S8/S8+ devices on the network. It’s worth stressing the patch also fixed the QualPwn vulnerability. Apart from T-Mobile, there also were reports about Sprint and Verizon releasing the August patch to S8 devices.

However, Galaxy S8/S8+ users with unlocked variants in the US region were left gawking. But that changes now, as the August security update is now live for them as well. Just in time, hurray!

The August update carries build number G95OU1UES6DSH1. And as already mentioned, the update is currently available on the US unlocked S8. The Plus variant should also join the party soon.

As per reports, the update isn’t yet out as OTA, but can be grabbed through Smart Switch. As is often the case with airborne releases, you may have to wait for a day or two for the patch to get rolling and hit your unit. So hang in tight until you see the notification pop-up. Happy installing!

NOTE: Kingshuk De from our team has already spoken about unexpected rise of temperatures, device lag and app crashing issues which have been triggered on Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ devices (global Exynos) after the latest security update.

So be careful while installing the August patch on your unlocked variant, as you may also get to see similar symptoms after installing the update. Feel free to let us know if that turns out to be the case by dropping a comment below. For more news on Samsung, head here.
