It seems OnePlus has a lot of work cut out for themselves. Earlier, we reported that OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro users were noticing a few issues with the display including color shifting. As it turns out, OnePlus Nord users are also noticing similar display problems.

Further, even though the OnePlus 8/8 Pro and OnePlus Nord are 5G capable devices, O2 users in the UK aren’t able to take advantage of it. Unfortunately, the bad news does not end there. It now appears that OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro users with T-Mobile branded units are facing a major issue.

Several affected users have taken to the OnePlus forums to seek help regarding the problem. According to users on the Android 11 beta software, as soon as they connect to a Wi-Fi or cellular network, the OnePlus 8 or 8 Pro enters into a bootloop.

This is a rather strange occurrence since we haven’t seen many such cases previously. Apparently, the phone works just fine when it’s not connected to any network. The issue is relatively new, however, users have already begun sharing workarounds that allegedly fix the problem.

One user proposes to remove the SIM card and keep the Wi-Fi turned off, then go to the developer mode and enable USB debugging. Once done, affected users can download the Android 10 downgrade on their PC, then transfer it to the device and install the package via the Local Upgrade option.

Of course, there are a few other workarounds suggested by users on the forums. But it’s worth noting that none of them have been officially recommended by OnePlus. These are a few other methods that might fix the issue:

I was finally able to skip past the setup! I blocked *.1plus.io domains on my wifi as well as gateway.oneplus.net and the phone was not able to connect to the update server anymore. I completed the setup and now I’m rolling back to the stable version.

Hello again, I was able to solve the issue. StepbyStep:
Starting point for my the recovery menue and I have choosen language english
1. Wipe (everything)
2. Created a whitelist on my fritzbox only with the entry : “*.1plus.io”
3. skip mobile (no sim inserted)
4. connect to wifi (keep in mind just allow the url from step 2)
5. Next step “copy Data” => here I gave the full internet access again
6. skipped all
7. copy the downgrade image on the root folder of my oneplus
8. Setting => update => local upgrade => choose the file I have copied
9. after install => reboot the system
10. ready => I’m back on Android 10

Hopefully it helps you. (Source)

Keep in mind that it’s entirely possible that none of the methods provided above will fix the bootloop issue on the OnePlus 8/8 Pro. But your hope shouldn’t end there. A Staff Member on the company’s community forums has acknowledged the problem in a comment.

We’ll definitely work on the issue reported and we’ll do our best to help you.

Therefore, affected users should find some relief shortly. Although, there is no ETA for the arrival of the fix. So users will have to make do with the temporary workarounds for the moment until OnePlus comes up with a permanent fix.

Due to the fact that users have just begun reporting about the problem, there are chances that non-T-Mobile OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro units may also be affected. At present, the Android 11 beta 2 build is the latest update for the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro.

We can expect to see the problem addressed via an OTA update. As usual, we will continue tracking the situation and will post a follow-up once more details are available regarding the bootloop issue on the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro.
